Orange's data figures are vastly different to my phones?
Well, this is more than a little embarrasing, but I've gone massively over my data limits every month for the past 5 months, at a total cost of just over £200.
I have a Galaxy S3 on a 24 month Orange contract, paying £20.50p/m for a package which includes 1.5GB data.
I set my phone to notify me when I use 1.2GB which has never happened, and stop using data entirely when I hit 1.4GB.
Yet Orange have said that the figure is incorrect... I can see that within reason there could be a slight disparity between the figures, but surely a phone is capable of knowing how much data is sent? ie if my phone says I've used 900mb, how can Orange claim I've used over 2GB?!
I tried to explain my position on the phone to the guy and he was very insistent that their figure was correct, and my phone's figure was incorrect, but when I asked to speak to his manager he told me that it wasn't possible since he was on holiday (heh) and when I requested a call back from any management, unspurisingly I haven't got one yet (1 week later)
Is this worth pursueing? I know it's my own stupid fault for not checking my balance on the Orange site, but I really thought having a warning at 1.2GB (300mb under my allowance) would suffice.
Thanks!

Try a different app to measure your data .0

I have a nexus 5 and my data on phone via kitkat is same as what EE app shows
Do us use the EE app? That shows data usage so I would keep an eye on that
I'm with T Mobile and have 3GB data but have been close to using that this month so have bought additional 1.5 GB for £5. Maybe it's worth doing the same if orange offer this as out of allowance data is costly at about £6 per MB yes MB not GB with T Mob
I found this out when they charged me £151 plus vat for 23Mb worth when I swapped over contracts. Thankfully it was their mistake.0 -
i use droidstats seems pretty spot on compared to the orange appWhat goes around-comes around0

I use the built in Android data monitor and it seems to coincide with my Giffgaff 'bill'.
Do you have the dates in the monitor set correctly? Of you're monitoring a different period to EE then it's basically useless.0 -
Thanks all for the replies, I'm not using any particular app, just under Settings there's an option called 'Data Usage' which monitors everything.
Since it's part of Android (ie it came with the phone) and there are no settings that I could have screwed up, I am tempted to pursue it and phone Orange just to see if I get anywhere.
To be honest I really cannot wait until September when I can cancel the contract and move back to GiffGaff...0 -

The integrated app will have a series of options...
there is a tickbox to "Set Mobile Data Limit"
Immediately under this there is a "data usage cycle" - if you click/select this you'll get another menu with a variety of settings, so that you can set the correct cycle.
As Rusty said - you're probably/possibly out of sync with your billing period - which effectively renders the information from this app. useless.0 -
Thank you, I did have the mobile data limit set to below my actual allowance though, and the cycle was set to be exactly the same as my contract
I think either way, the fact my phone has never told me it's gone above 1.2GB, yet Orange say I've used over 2GB implies something is up0
