20 day service outage

At my home address I usually get full 3G signal with Vodafone, this has never been an issue. However on the 26th March something went wrong with their service and now whilst I appear to have signal I cannot make or receive calls, texts or use my data. Having spoke to relatives and friends in the area the problem is not isolated to me.

I have complained to Vodafone almost daily since the 26th March about this. I simply get told that "it takes time".

Now I am paying for a service which is completely unusable for me. I am missing important phone calls, missing text messages and the likes. The mast which is down covers a large portion of my town, so I have to travel a couple of miles away to get usable signal again.

Vodafone have told me to "wait patiently", however this is getting beyond a joke. They have said once the service is resumed to contact them to get a refund for the days or service outage.

The refund is not really adequate in my opinion. I am completely inconvenienced and would like to take my custom elsewhere.

I am on a 12 month SIM only contract at £16 a month (Discounted to £12 a month). There are better / similar deals out there with their competitors. My contract runs until September.

Surely Vodafone are breaking their contract to me by leaving me without service for this amount of time, on an issue that they know about.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should do?

  • Unfortunately all networks can have problems with sites, while in many cases they can be resolved in a matter of hours, sometimes it may be beyond the control of the network and wheeling in a temporary base station may be impractical.

When I had a data outage of a few days with Three, they gave me a top up on my PAYG phone (£10 from memory). Later when they fouled up a migration from PAYG to a 30 day contract SIM, which left me without being able to use my existing number for almost a week, they didn't charge me for the monthly direct debit.

I would complain to the CEO's Office if you can't get any sense from the call centre. At the very least you shouldn't have to pay the monthly charge.

  • My own experience is that O2 are faster correcting faults when they occur than Vodafone are so you could consider changing to O2 or a virtual operator like Tesco. My own town just has two masts for each of those networks so Vodafone and O2 are evenly matched but O2 always seem to be on the ball more quickly. However in Lincolnshire EE (Orange/T Mobile) seem to have more 3G coverage than Vodafone or O2.
