I suspect you're going into each bank acting like a loon with bizarre stories.

I suspect OP never went anywhere near any bank because it is all made up and OP takes a childish satisfaction from fooling about on internet forums.

perhaps visit a building society, and just open a Savings Account? that won't require the same assessment as opening a current account.

Not sure why anyone would claim to have £400k in the bank, then boast about a council house discount purchase, immediately renting it out?

    Interesting first post OP...

    :) agreed. i don't doubt him/her though.

perhaps an inheritance, or another windfall. perhaps a successful business. and perhaps low outgoings. a lot of things go on, moneywise, that would surprise a lot of people, but aren't illegal.

Makes no sense. I had more than that on deposit between selling one house and buying another, and no bank batted an eyelid (it lived in several banks at different times).

What was the source of the money?

To be fair sometimes banks do cause a fuss over large amounts. I remember having a conversation on here with dunstoh about this. Sometimes banks will even stop a cheque written to pay into an investment if they feel their sales staff has been bypassed for the benefit of an IFA.

I would like to thank the people who are actually giving me a serious response.

The reason I've also included the fact that I'm buying my property under RTB this year and the fact that I'm going to rent it out is because my financial situation and assets are changing in the short term, so it’s important to include these so it can be taken into account when sorting your finances. I should have known I would get some jealous people responding!

And no it’s not made up, and the reason I posted at 3.30am is because I couldn't sleep.
While I appreciate some of your response PasturesNew when I go into a bank I tell them the truth so I can get products that suits my needs. There are an awful lot of products which are available if you have a certain amount of assets. I don’t act like a loon with bizarre stories at all, just 100% honest with them.

Oh and the reason I've amounted such as large amount is through my own making, I relied on no one but myself and yes I can prove where the funds came from. 6 years ago I had a turning point in my life after living on the streets without two pennies to rub together, I vowed to pick myself up and get on with life. Oh and before anyone comments I didn't get my council house due to homelessness, I was actually working and earning when I obtained it and said from day one I was going to buy it, the 5 year waiting period kicks in this year.

Thank you HappyMJ, I have recently spoke to a FA and will be seeing them very soon.

Caprylate, I have checked my file, I have 2 defaults and 1 partial default on it but this was from quite a few years ago when I was in debt, there about 5 years old and each under £400.

Oh and thanks to planteria as well!!

The jealous people need not to post and please I would appreciate some serious answers.

    Again thank you in advance.
