Apparently I use 412 litres a day?

I worked it out by using my bill. It was £73.90 for 3 months which is about £24.64 per month which is £6.16 a week which is £0.88 a day. The bill was actually for 16 cubic metres of water and that 88 pence a day includes standing charges.
I'm not really sure what you're saying in your second paragraph but the bill really was £9000.00 for roughly 4-5 months of water, waste water and standing charges.0 -

What I am saying is the £9,000 bill cannot be correct.
Even if the bill was for 5 months, the standing charges will be less than £60. So with water/sewerage at a cost of £2.851 per cubic metre(1000 litres) your leak would have totalled 3,463,774litres so 960 litres every hour for 5 months. That is an absolutely massive leak - around 400 baths a day.
The water company stating they cannot trace a leak of that magnitude is just not plausible – they are the experts with sophisticated equipment that can trace tiny leaks. What hope would a plumber have if the water company couldn’t trace the leak?
Also all water companies, including United Utilities, will trace and repair a leak on a one-off basis without charge. They say so on their website, see:
http://www.unitedutilities.com/documents/private-leak-repair-scheme.pdfHowever, we’re not in the business of leaving our customers high and dry. So if you think your supply pipe is leaking, we’ll do our best to help – even if the problem turns out be on your side of the garden fence. Give us a call, and one of our engineers will be out to investigate.
Once we’ve found the leak, you’ll be asked to sign a disclaimer form, authorising us to do the repair. We’ll then get the job done within 7-10 working days, free of charge.0 -
Also, for 3 months (using 90 days as an average) £73.90 is 82p a day and 16 units is 178 litres a day. Plus 16 units at £2.85 would be £45.60, so £28.30 would be standing charges, leaving 51p a day as usage and 31p a day as standing charge (only approx. as gives a rounding error).0

I would just like to say when people talk about avg cons for 1 occ....I work for a water company and we cover a few different areas....the avg in on is 92m3 per year, another is 66 and the third is 56m3...it does vary a lot on areas (and we do see these figures reflected on cons through meters)Official DFD: Dec 29Challenge DFD: July 23Debts Cleared: 1/13Building EF: £20/£600 3%0

Are you saying that the average figure for a single occupant in one area is 92m3 pa?
Firstly how do you find out if the property has a single occupant(excluding properties on assessed charges)
Ofwat have a mass of data on consumption for consumption of both metered and unmetered property and over the last 20 years the average consumption has not varied greatly. The peak was an average per person of 152litres per day(55.5 m3 pa) and the low 53.3 m3 pa)
Can you please give more information on those figures?0 -

If you put in avg use it will come up with details I gave for higher use...HOWEVER it is a very use area compared to othersOfficial DFD: Dec 29Challenge DFD: July 23Debts Cleared: 1/13Building EF: £20/£600 3%0 -

Well I don't know if there is some fault on that website, but this is a quote from Ofwat - and there are scores of other sites that give roughly the same ballpark figures:In England and Wales, on average
each person currently uses about
150 litres of water a day. That is
more than in Germany, Austria and
the Netherlands. Nor do we have to
look overseas for examples of lower
water use. Veolia Water East’s
customers in the east of England
use fewer than 120 litres per person
each day on average.
Incidentally if you put in four people with average use in that Affinity website it comes up with a figure of 213m3 which at 53m3 per person is in line with the Ofwat figure.
Affinity water is near Thames waters area yet their consumption figures are way lower.

the other two areas wer cover have a much lower cons 180 and 130l per day. It is accepted that certain areas in the country use more water for what ever reason, be it for gardening/wasteage...
it tends to be in this one area (we cover three remember) that the water tends to be wasteful/higher until you reach 3 people then tends to average out.
We cover what was consider Veolia East, South East and Central. It is the cetral region that does use the larger amount. Compared to what was the East region which uses considerably lower amounts, but there is speculation regarding the region as there is a high level of retirement there so perhaps more mindful of costing/use, 1 occ using avg 120-140l
I cant assure you these figures for central are sadly right as I have worked for the company for 5+ yearsOfficial DFD: Dec 29Challenge DFD: July 23Debts Cleared: 1/13Building EF: £20/£600 3%0 -
also the post you have quoted is awful not been known as Veolia in nearly two years! (not saying your fault in slightest just surprised not updated!)Official DFD: Dec 29Challenge DFD: July 23Debts Cleared: 1/13Building EF: £20/£600 3%0
