I just applied for the HSBC Student Credit Card. I've got a student account with them, but it's rarely used and only has £500 overdraft. I applied towards the end of last year and was declined outright. After applying today, I got "Confirmation - We have received your application for an HSBC Bank Credit Card. What happens next - We need to complete some final checks on your application to make sure we offer you the right product and will contact you via Personal Internet Banking 'My Messages' within the next 2 working days".
I'm not holding out much hope (as not much has changed on my credit report or bank account in the last 5 months), but it looks like they credit checked me when I was doing the application, and haven't outright declined me. *fingers crossed*
Fingers crossed and let us know the outcome!0 -

It was declined.
Could have something to do with having their £500 free overdraft in a savings account with them.
I'll stick with NatWest I think.0 -

Natwest? Who seem rather prone to glitches due to a lack of investment. Apart from their student account what good offering are there?0 -

At the moment, they're giving me £1750 for free with my student account. I graduate in 2 months, and they'll give me a free allowance for 2 years.
Once I've paid off my overdraft, I'll probably start using my Nationwide FlexPlus as my main bank account.
I need to start closing some bank accounts. I've got a first direct 1st account and Barclays bank account laying dormant. Might use them to get the free switch bonus at Co-Op and Halifax.0
