Did you use your CC wisely?
Paid in full and on time every time ofcourse. I recon that's the main reason why I was able to get a mortgage offer a couple of years later. Anyway after a while they've offered a card with 0% purchases for 13 months, then I had the lightbulb moment! :rotfl: Started to stooz with a 3.3% ISA (when money wasn't as cheap!) and ended up with a stooz pot of over £5k. When it ended I redemed the points earned with the card for £50 of Sainsburys vouchers, and bought beer with them, plus got over £100 in interest.
As I was sat in the sun drinking the free beer courtesy of Natwest I vowed to always dabble with credit cards to get either cashback or to stooz, now it feels a waste when I purchase a product without either a cashback card, or a 0% card
Made hundereds with credit cards, I don't look back now!:D0 -

Loool! That's why I don't like shopping in Lidl and Aldi as you can't use CCs in England!
It's good to hear of a fellow young person being smart with money!0 -
If Scotland gets independence, Natwest (part of RBS) will go with them I assume so I'm not getting their CC.
People moaning about schools not teaching financial management is somewhat true though banks like Barclays are getting involved with communities to educate young people. The government should be doing this but I suspect there's no space for it in the curriculum.0 -

Santander isn't an English/British bank lol!0 -

I have the 123 Current account and the cashier noticed that I was reading the a booklet on the 123CC and asked me if I was interested in applying. I said yes, reluctantly as I had applied for 2 CCs yesterday-albeit successfully! I saw an branch banker who did the application and I was pleasantly surprised when I was accepted with a limit of £3,200!
The fact that I have a balance of nearly £7k in my 123 account & pay in around £5k in the hope of been invited to Santander Select probably helped lol!
I've had CCs before though!
Full disclosure, I hadn't had any credit cards before hand, only two bank accounts, mobile and internet contracts and British Gas, I was surprised to get the BC let alone the AMEX with that history0 -
HSBC offered me a CC with a maximum credit limit of £500, I subsequently applied for the BC Platinum and Starwood AMEX, I got both with £3,000 and £6,000 respectively. Going to your bank may seem like the right place to go but for me, AMEX and BC offered the best, I still use have and use the HSBC card mind but it's useless for anything more than a coffee run :rotfl:

Wow well you must have a good salary to get an AMEX without much credit history lol!0 -
My bank (Nationwide) won't give me a thing, yet Barclaycard and MBNA are quite happy to. Rang NW yesterday and happened to mention I had just been accepted for an MBNA, they asked had I considered applying with them... i laughed so hard since they've declined me three times now!0

Funnily enough I considered NW- I bank with them but the quote I was given was only for £500 so I decided not to bother with the application!0 -

I just applied for the HSBC Student Credit Card. I've got a student account with them, but it's rarely used and only has £500 overdraft. I applied towards the end of last year and was declined outright. After applying today, I got "Confirmation - We have received your application for an HSBC Bank Credit Card. What happens next - We need to complete some final checks on your application to make sure we offer you the right product and will contact you via Personal Internet Banking 'My Messages' within the next 2 working days".
I'm not holding out much hope (as not much has changed on my credit report or bank account in the last 5 months), but it looks like they credit checked me when I was doing the application, and haven't outright declined me. *fingers crossed*0
