Dispute with SGG Glass

Hi, I wonder if someone could give me some advice on this matter. I agreed for SGG Glass to replace some double glazed glass panes in my windows and some were fitted satisfactorily. SGG had to refit two glass panes 3 times without success. There are dust particles trapped in the cavity between the two glass panels. Now SGG has refused to replace these and said that their glazier said there is nothing wrong with the glass panes. SGG demand payment or they will pursue this through court. Please could you advise me whether to pay now or after the windows are refitted satisfactorily, and what rights do I have. Thks.

Hi
You probably find you will get beter answers if repost this on the consumer rights section of the forum - which is here - Consumer Rights.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I'd send a letter saying you'll pay when the job's finished satisfactorily.
That way, if they take you to court, you can show that you've tried to be reasonable

As above, send a letter stating that once the windows have been fitted satisfactorily (then give specific detail of events so far and what is still wrong) then you will happily pay them the full amount due.
Ask for them to contact you via phone/email to arrange a date to rectify the problem.
send this letter with proof of postage.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Nomoneytoday, Pinkshoes, you are brilliant! SGG Glass are coming next week to resolve the matter. I must give them credit for doing the right thing. Thank you.

I have not heard from SGG-Glass again since their last visit in April to check that there are indeed dirt trapped in the double glazed units. I have emailed them several times but no reply. I am wondering whether after a period they will try to sue me again for not paying. I have already stated to them that I am prepared to pay for windows that are dirt-free. Appreciate sound advice from anyone. Thks.0

They have upto 6 years but as you have stated payment will be completed when done satisfactorily and they acknowledged and stated they were going to come out, no court in the land would award payment based on what you have said so far, so either kick back and accept it or state that you will be witholding payment until such time it is comepleted, am sure they will turn up pretty sharply when they realise payment is not forthcoming0

Thanks keyser666. Discussions with SGG-Glass since the dispute were via phone calls so I do not have proof of SSG Glass confirming that they will make good the dirty glass units before payment is required. At the end of the day it will be my words against theirs. I just don't understand why this has ended in silence from SGG-Glass as they seems like a very reputable company from their website, unless there has been a tragedy within the company(?). Myle.0

How much of the total balance is still owing?
In other words, have you withheld a proportionate amount? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Hi Unholyangel,
The total cost is about £600 and this has not been paid. I still have not heard from SGG Glass since they last agreed to replace the glass pane again for the upteempth time. Maybe they are replacing their production equipment but it does not seem right to ignore your customer completely.
Rgds,

I would get quotes on how much it would cost to have those 2 panes fixed elsewhere - this should be the amount you with hold from them. I'd also ask them to note the reason for it (the panes not being properly installed, poor workmanship) in case they claim its you being overly fussy and that they have carried out the work to a reasonable standard that most people would be satisfied with.
Refusing to pay anything will only get you in hot water if they do take it to court. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
