Tesco Mobile Phone Insurance DD

Beware of this when you take out a new contract with Tesco Mobile.
When you take out a new contract you'll be offered 28 days free insurance on your new phone. After the 28 days a monthly direct debit will be taken, the amount depending on the price band your new phone falls into.
Yesterday, one week before the 28 day 'free' period expired, i managed to find the insurance far cheaper and signed up to a new policy and paid annually (not on a dd). However, i also looked at my bank statement online and despite still being in the free 28 days of insurance Tesco have already taken the first direct debit payment of £6, nine days before the 28 days
I've contacted Tesco Mobile and their insurance arm and was told i would be refunded before the end of the week, but wasn't given a reason for the direct debit being taken early.
Just a note of caution if your dealing with Tesco Mobile as an existing or new customer.....
