But it's linked to your debit card, not your account.
    Where does it say that?

    Within your online area...
You haven't earned any cashback yet.
Activate your offers and then shop with your Halifax debit or credit card to get the cashback.
Or, to put some emphasis on it...
You haven't earned any cashback yet.
Activate your offers and then shop with your Halifax debit or credit card to get the cashback.

    And from the FAQ...
What if my Halifax debit card is on a joint current account?
You can use a joint current account for Cashback Extras. When you sign in to Online Banking with your login details you’ll just see your personal offers. Offers will match spending on your card and not that of the other account holder. Only the person who has accepted an offer will earn cashback.
Cashback is paid into the Halifax current account you choose, whether it’s your joint or sole account.

Now I see! It's under "Managing your Settings" - rather than under "Terms and Conditions" where it should be.

I still think it's perverse though.

It's covered in the T&Cs as well (the very first paragraph in fact refers you to said FAQ)...
    Terms and conditions

What are the Cashback Extras terms and conditions?

The terms and conditions for Cashback Extras include the Online Banking terms and conditions, and the terms of our privacy policy (both of which you have already agreed to), and these FAQs.
    My emphasis.

Plus there's an awful lot of "you" and "your" throughout the documents. Because online banking and debit cards are personal to you, the reference to you means just that...you (and not the other joint account holder). :)

Halifax could use exactly the same wording, if the cashback was account wide. ("Your" is both singular and plural)

I accept their terms but they are in need of a little more clarity!

Why not just get a proper cashback card that pays you every time you make a payment, rather than some gizzmo card that may or may not give you an occasional benefit, provided you have hooped through some hoops first?

It's to encourage people to use internet banking. The offers are only available if you personally activate them in internet banking.

I have an ancient Halifax credit card paying 1% cashback.

I get that in addition to these offers.

Works with Topcashback and the selected retailers and the credit card cashback so I can gain three lots of discount.

The scheme is entirely based around individuals accessing it online. It's not quite as in your face as the likes of Nationwide's FlexDirect, but I suspect this is Halifax's way of getting everyone online and ditching alternative forms of banking.

So yes, your wife will need to sign up for online banking if she wants the offers.
