Halifax Cashback Extras - but you don't get them!!!

Halifax offers its online customers the chance to get cashback direct to their account if they take up offers. I twice tried to get cashback by shopping at Morrisons when ten per cent was being offered. However, because my wife paid with her Halifax debit card while I was packing the shopping into bags, we did not get cashback even though we have a joint account.
Halifax offer the excuse that only online customers can qualify! So clearly, I must get my wife to register for online banking - she really isn't interested - or she must do the bagging of shopping while I stand by and just use my card.
Has anyone else run into this cheapskate Halifax method of avoiding paying cashback and does this happen with other banks?

As I understand it, the offer is to the specified account/card holder (and wasn't necessarily 10%). It wasn't offered to everyone either.
If you received the offer, then you must have activated it. If you activated it, you have to use your card. Seems straightforward to me and not "cheapskate".
You may well get the offer repeated (perhaps at 5%). If you activate that, remember to divide the labour as you suggested, your wife continues to pack while you pay.0 -
If you want the offer you have to register and then use the appropriate card for payment.
If you can't be bothered doing this then you don't get anything.
It takes seconds to do.Has anyone else run into this cheapskate Halifax method of avoiding paying cashbackand does this happen with other banks0 -
Login to Halifax. Click in the offer you want. Then use the card the offer is activated on.
Had no issues with any cash back offers I have activated so far.All that glitters is not gold.0 -
Made £27.96 in six months of so. Good idea IMO0

The main drawback I have found is that when paying with a credit card, you only get the cashback if the main cardholder pays.0

Additional cardholder payments should apply:
"Transactions made by additional cardholders will count towards cashback and will also be used to generate new offers for the primary cardholder to activate."
From "things you need to know" tab here?
We've been using the Clarity for the £5 on £300 spend (and use abroad where relevant), and the cashback is an added bonus0 -
Thanks for that! There is more info there than was provided when we signed up. The stuff I read was obviously incomplete.
We signed up for the Waitrose and Morrisons offers, but don't have stores that near, so haven't actually earned any cashback so far.
We use the cards a lot otherwise and get the free £5, and find them excellent for using abroad, so any cashback is as you said, a bonus.0 -

I would have thought, like martinaj, that the cashback offer applied to the account, not to the user or to the card used. I've read the "things you need to know" and all the relevant info on the Halifax website and there's nothing to suggest that a specific card must be used, or that joint account users need to register separately for cashback. It does specifically mention that both main and additional credit cards will earn cashback, so it seems perverse to exclude joint current account users.
But it's linked to your debit card, not your account.DEBT FREE!
