When I got my mortgage with Lloyds tsb way back in 2001 I was told I needed payment protection. In 2008 I claimed on it as I was off work for a year with an illness. I still pay it. I am unsure if I can make a claim for something I was told I had to buy and didn't ask for even though I have used it. Can anyone advise me. Thanks

If you were to complain and be successful (which I have to say is extremely unlikely) any money paid to you during your year off work would be deducted from any redress awarded.
The fact is you claimed on the insurance which shows that not only did you have need for it, you were also eligible to claim on it.0 -

I am sure you were pleased they identified you had a financial need for it and you benefitted from it.

You can still complain about it being mis-sold but your reasons for complaint are diminished. You cannot complain you didnt need it (as you did). You cant complain you were not eligible as it has paid out. You cant complain you didnt know about it as you claimed on it.
In the unlikely event of your complaint being upheld, they would cancel the policy leaving you with no cover going forward and any redress payable would have the total amount paid out under the claim deducted from the redress. That may well be greater than the the redress resulting in zero payment.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Thanks for your feedback. I hope it didn't sound like I'm after a quick buck. Many thanks for your quick responses and setting me straight0
