Alvis Retail Park Coventry - Parking Eye Fine

Hi everyone

I have received today a parking charge notice from Parking Eye telling me to pay £60 within 14 days or the charge goes up to £100.

Before I go into the rest of my story, I'll just mention that the photos of the cars entering and exiting are different. There's a photo of a car which isn't mine and with a different reg no (one letter different) going in and a photo of my car coming out. Is this a 'get out of jail free' card straight off?

So the story is. My 17 year old son recently got a part time job at a brand new McDonald's, but his training and induction were at an existing branch in the big city about 15 miles away. The first day I drove him there, dropped him off and then picked him up again. The following day he drove himself there and parked for his whole shift. None of us (my son, his father or me) noticed *any* parking restrictions. We're not blind, we would have seen obvious notices and no-one warned him from within McDonald's, which is unfortunate.

So, what do we do? He was definitely there for longer than 4 hours on that day (we drove and picked him up all the other days apart from one, which we think he stayed for less than 4 hours...) - I have read some of the other threads, but to be perfectly honest I'm bamboozled by all the information so I'm hoping that someone can give me clear and concise advice here on where to go next as I'm a little bit scared and inclined to go for the 'pay it now' course :(

Thanks in anticipation.

  • Also, there may be another one for the week after this, he may have been there a whisker over 4 hours, not sure, so I need to be prepared for that fine also.

If I don't reply instantly it's because I'm out, back later.

This is a different case from the norm and I am going to bring this to the attention of the Parking Prankster who may advise a different from usual approach.

Very interested in this one and would love a copy of the PCN to help in other court cases (with your details redacted)

ParkingEye are fond of quoting they do 19 checks for each PCN. This obviously prove their checks are not as rigorous as they would like the courts to believe.

Meanwhile, just appeal to parkingeye on the grounds the pictures are of different cars. Wait until 14 days are up so they cannot re-issue the PCN.

Appeal by post, and keep a free proof of posting. Come back here if no answer within 14 days or if they do not uphold the appeal.

  • Thanks. So I should wait until the 14 days have passed? Is that because otherwise they'll have the chance to put the right photos together? Won't they still just be able to issue another notice after the 14 days? Still worried about the fine going up to £100 - I can't get that out of my head.

If/when I write, do I just say quite simply that the car photographed going in is not my car and leave it at that? Or do I go on to tell the rest of my story?

I've just spoken to my son and asked him if anyone else has had parking notices and he said that one person did and at a meeting they had the other night (for new trainees) one of the McDonald's people took it off him and said they'd deal with it. I wonder what they do with them...

Thanks again, I'm reading all replies with interest and gratitude.

No. A NtK (which is what you have) must be served on the keeper within 14 days of the parking incident. Once past there's no going back and starting again.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com
  • I need to be prepared for that fine also.

Please make sure you send a copy of the required paperwork as the Prankster requests. Use a private message. If you need more posts to make a PM, then please make some here on other MSE forum..
  • I will do, I'll PM the Prankster and see if it's ok to email it.

McDonalds Managers routinely cancel these all the time with one phone call. He needs to 'ask' in a fairly persistent manner, for this to happen (but please keep the original 'PCN' letter and just get him to hand them a photocopy to cancel).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
