I have XP software on my PC, could this be the problem?
I click on Internet Explorer and get the 'internet Explorer cannot display the we page' message.
I go through the diagnose connection problems procedure and finally get this message:
Microsoft visual C++ runtime library.
Runtime error!
Program:C:\windows\network diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe.
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information'
I have Avast, malware bytes and cc cleaner installed on my machine.
What do I need to do, please?

XP won't stop working because it is no longer supported. Has it ever worked? How is it physically connected to the internet?
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/1109903-no-internet-connectivity-xpnetdiag-exe.html is a search result based on xpnetdiag failing and there may be something of use in there - especially the suggestion to check your various network adaptors are not showing issues0 -

Thanks for that. I looked under Network adaptors:
X - 1394 net adapter
! - avast! Firewall NDIS filter mini port
VIA comparable fast Ethernet adapter
! - VIA compatible fast Ethernet adapter - Avast!firewall NDIS filter mini port.
! - WAN mini port (IP) - AVAST! Firewall NDIS filter mini port
How do I solve this?
Thanks0 -
I would remove Avast first then try .0

You need to answer kwikbreak's question - has it ever worked? If it has, what are you aware of that has changed since you were last able to connect? Are you using a wired or wireless connection, and are you connecting to the router but not the internet, or not connecting to the router at all?0

As above-connection failed, or new set up never worked? If wireless, try to get it going first with ethernet. No free lunch, and no free laptop

It has worked fine up until about a week ago.
Connected by Ethernet cable.
We have been having some Plusnet connection issues, our ipad and xbox often gets disconnected. After a few weeks of trying to solve it an engineer is coming to my house tomorrow. Hopefully to find the fault.
I'm disconnecting Avast, as I type this. Hopefully it works.
What should I replace it with?0 -
Brand name and model number of PC?0

just turn off the avast firewall, make sure windows fw is on, and reboot...sounds like the mcafee firewall update a year or so ago that caused similar issues.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
