Cod is now £1.68 for 1 in T's on msm. So not such a good deal.
:eek:That's doubtless a correct price - T hiking up the prices again. I noticed earlier that "Tesco price cuts" was trending at no. 2 on yahoo.co.uk searches. Apparently they've cut the price of 30 - yes, three oh - items that, they claim, will stay down in price.
30 items - out of thousands and thousands in the average store:(:(. According to the Guardian, it's to bring them closer to A's 'everyday low prices' model. That's the one that sees price 'locks' at 50p and 75p, several of which are currently more expensive 'everyday' pricing than the price elsewhere(butas to APG). According to the Guardian and the Telegraph, T is taking on the (so-called) 'discounters'. Here's the price list for T from the Telegraph article (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/consumertips/household-bills/10779634/Tesco-responds-to-supermarket-battle-with-30-price-cuts-and-delivery-charge-reduction.html):
Tesco (own brand) Was Now
Free range eggs medium box of 6 £1.38 £1
English slightly salted butter 250g £1.49 £1
Baked beans in tomato sauce 420g 45p 32p
Unsmoked bacon 210g £1.89 £1.50
Salad tomatoes 6 pack £1 69p
Wholemeal medium bread 800g 90p 75p
In other words:
Medium FR eggs continue on Avs T at £1.29 vs £1.00 therefore 90p net. Works out cheaper than A's 97p price on one of its other 6 pack FR. A and Aldi, and Morrisons, have already now had certain own-brand 6 pack free range eggs at around 97p for many months. (Sadly A and M's are no longer the equivalent ones.) All it means is that T was charging rip-off prices on its FR 6 eggs (compared to these other stores) for many months prior to this 'drop' to £1, that, even after the drop, is still more expensive than the 97ps elsewhere and A's Medium FR 6 pack eggs are now 90p net on the APG Avs T.
The 'Value' or 'SP' 250g Salted Butter is still 98p, so the price 'drop' to £1 on the other one in T still sees you paying more.
The Baked Beans in Tom Sauce - has probably gone back to the price it was before recent price hikes on some tinned products. Anyway, I've always looked to the SP/Value Baked Beans which are generally 25p. 32p for a single can of beans is, as we know on here, far too expensive - sees you getting only 3 for almost £1:eek:. And if it's branded ones you are after and really don't go for SP/Value:wall:, Branston baked beans, as we know, go down to about £1 for a 4 pack in... places of the likes such as Lidl!:rotfl: Branston Beans, for most of us, outside Northern Ireland, are £1.25 in M for a pack of 4 (possibly approx. £1.08 through APG) so why pay around the same for one can fewer? Anyway, the Heinz Baked Beanz (yes, Heinz, you brand-lovers) were far better on mbuy glitch and I've still got loads of those cans left. No bothering with 32p:eek: cans or even 4 pack Branstons for me:rotfl:.
Unsmoked Bacon - again, I'm sure you can find better offers from time to time in Lidl or Aldi. Okay, 'from time to time' and £1.50 for some bacon seems quite reasonable. But, wait, what weight is it? I normally go for S's Basics Unsmoked Middle Bacon - which is 450g pack - and at £2 (even though that too is a price increase compared to prices where it has been lower). Some of the SP/Basics/Value ranges of bacon can be a bit, shall we say, lacking in quality in my opinion and not stuff I'd want to eat. The Sains. Basics Unsmoked Middle is quite nice though. T's £1.50 bacon, according to the Telegraph article, is 210g so it's way expensive for what you would be getting and the 450g Sains pack is quite good value. (Not as good as bacon glitch vs Morries earlier, but nonetheless!)
Salad Tomatoes 6 pack at 69p, although I know a lot of you have been comparing against it on the APG, and, although we have had prices of £1 around the stores on these before, when it seemed to make the 69p a good deal, is way expensive given that it's in Mr M's 3 for £1.50 and thus 50p as part of that. But - hang on? - do the tomatoes in M's 6 pack now look a little smaller?:think: I'd still be going for 3 for £1.50 though, if they weren't making me buy more - I might go for it when we run out of other veg (that is also in the offer at M) a little bit more than we are at the moment.
Wholemeal Bread 800g at 75p. Whilst not a weight reduction to 750g:eek: to compensate, might I say these words? Eday Value? S/Price? Whoopsies?;);) Why would anyone buy W/meal bread at over 50p a loaf?!?:rotfl::rotfl:
In short, all of the price drops in the Telegraph's list are way too expensive even on the 'dropped' price, some of which have been achieved by charging way over the odds more than other competitors for several months or not a year or more (the same as was achieved with the 4 pint milk that had already been £1 in A for a long time before T eventually reduced to match - and already had its Creamfield 4 pint on £1 all the way through. Using the PP vs A, the £1.39 before in T would have made no odds anyway, if compared correctly).
As for a meagre 30 items,:(:(:(. And watch your doubled-in-price cod!:)
Sadly I can see the muggles going for every one of the 'price dropped' (a-ha - where have we heard that before?:D) items as the prices on them will show an offer and people will be drawn to buying them and not noticing that the regular prices of other items of the same kind nearby are cheaper. That's what the highlighting of the offers does - people buy 'Was [Strike]£1.49[/Strike] Now £1.00' salted butter and not noticing the Value Salted Butter near to it is still 98p. They see the £1 and the £1.49 and think 'saving' when the 98p version was and still is always a saving and is still cheaper now even even after the 'reduction' on the item with the huge offer label to which people's attention is drawn! Gotta watch this - it does work, particularly when you (or I in Morrisons:D) see a branded item on special offer, whose 'reduced' price is still more expensive than the 'Savers' range always was (and still is).
As a final illustration of this (for this post), the branded Chocolate Spread might go down in price on various offers, but is it cheaper than the Savers version? On one period, it was. But, ever since that best offer, when it was appearing on my Avs M to compare to and the advice was 'avoid the SP/Savers' as that is more expensive per 100g., since the offer ended a long while ago, it's always been more expensive than Savers (whatever 'offer' it has subsequently gone onto). But that's made me unlikely ever to go for any Chocolate Spread ever again, as the Savers price is (still at same price) is now way too expensive as it's never as cheap as the Nutella was at best:rotfl::rotfl:.0 -
I'm not watching Derek although I did see him on BBC news this morning, but I find him smug, smarmy, condescending and generally irritating. I just don't find him funny but I may watch just to see if there is actually something funny about him.
Comedy/sense of humour is a funny old thing. I have never got Monty python, Morecambe and wise, the 2 ronnies.....lots of the great comedy institutions we haveI don't find them funny.
I find his comedy on another level. People find him smug, smarmy....etc because that's the comedy, that's the intention. I think he's basically so good at playing the role, people believe it? Probably a better actor than comedian?
Did you catch the AWKWARD moment when Bill Turnball asked him what condition 'Derek' had?it was squirmy

Dunno if this has been posted before / is of interest to anyone. But I was reading Head for Points and saw this....
50 bonus points per bottle of Tesco wine in Scotland
Until 27 April, Tesco has brought back its offer of 50 Clubcard points when you buy wine. This is only available in Scotland, because the new pricing laws for alcohol there mean that Tesco can no longer offer cash discounts beyond a certain level.
This new offer appears to work on any bottle of wine, not just Tesco Finest.
The cheapest item seems to be this very dodgy Black Tower stuff at £1.19, which would be 1p per Avios even if you pour it down the sink (which may be the best option!). Scotland only, remember.

How is everyone tonight?
Has anyone been watching the "How To Get A Council House" show on Channel 4? Out of interest, is Tower Hamlets a posh place to live in or not Londoners? I'm totally engrossed. I can't wait for next week's episode!

I saw the interview but not the prog too..I like RG but felt he was taking the pee out of the presenters and don't think he was doing himself any favours.."He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas" Benjamin Franklin
