Do any of you buy food and drink from Aldi/Lidl? I am sure you do. I was just wondering if they are like branded products or are they actually cheap and nasty? I saw shed loads of people buying bread and margarine and cheese and every other staple under the sun at Aldi today and was just wondering what you guys thought about their products if you have tried them?

Mimi -a lot of their stuff is really good. I lived in Germany early in 90s for a couple of years and visited them then.... can't remember if you are a meat eater but their hams, meats etc are good value and tasty. Also OH likes their beers - in Germany you are only allowed to use 3 or 4 ingredients for the beer (water, hops, sugar something like that) so tastes nice and better for you lol - so think their own brand often still manufactured there and German rules apply. (He worked at John Smiths for 15 years).

I brought a farmhouse loaf at Aldi last week and everyone commented on how lovely it was. So wonder if its the same for their bread ....? Also get some good Italian hams and fancy pasta for great prices. It doesn't compare to glitch prices of course but as far as everyday basics...

I don't shop as often there as they too are 30 mile round trip and by the time I've hit Asda and Mr T for glitches on my weekly get out there - there is usually little time left.

Oops they also have great offers at weekends usually someone alerts here but rarely get there for them. HTH

We eat Lidl's brown bread through choice and get almost all our fruit and get there (they don't sell Bramley apples), am looking forward to stocking up on the spare ribs next weekend. Well converted, also helps that they are 5 mins walk from us. One problem on the horizon, our Lidl opens their bakery next week:eek::eek::eek:

Just a quick question I've used most of the coupons from my 4 mags .... how are you finding using the online coupons in store? I would like to try the butters and crumb from the dairy cooking range but would need to print from on line - but seem to remember Mr T trouts not keen at all on online mocs in my experience at Seacroft - although speaking to head office and getting gift voucher comes in handy but a hassle in RL.....

You could always start with milk eggs fresh fruit and veg as they taste the same anywhere and try something different as well also take bags with you they charge for their bags
