2nd Viewing....is this to much to ask?

We are in the process of selling our first home and buying our forever home.

We looked at a house yesterday that has potential...however it does need new double glazing. Do you think its cheeky asking to measure windows in order to get some rough estimates for costs? As the house is towards the top end of our budget...everything else we can live with until we have the money to sort it but the windows are starting to fail.

We were first time buyers last time so are still pretty new to this house buying lark!

    It's not cheeky. Do it.

My last buyers ended up coming round 7x. Jesus that ferked me off, but as a seller you have to suck it up, they're spending a lot of money to buy a house from you that you want to sell... so it goes with the territory.

I personally wouldn't think it was cheeky if someone asked to measure the windows on a second viewing.

Does it need new windows because the old ones have blown? If so then it is possible to just change the glass units at considerably less than replacing all the windows.

as a ballpark figure allow £500 per window.

The owners don't need to know what you're measuring for. It's perfectly reasonable to measure for curtains.

Personally i would do a minimum of 2 viewings.

The first viewing really is just a rush where u get basics. You need a 2nd one for a detailed look

I would not be measuring windows - it reduces your bargaining power - only measure when you have agreed a price
  • It's not cheeky, but if you do it before making an offer you risk looking too interested.

    Thanks everyone.

Yes definately needs new windows, a few of the glass panels have gone and the framework is starting to look yellow. The current owner can't really tell us much about the fixtures and fittings of the house as its all been there since he bought it 7 yrs ago. Only thing he has paperwork for is the rewire which he did.

We had the same issue with our current house and found it was just as cheap to install new windows rather than replace the glass.
  • Asking to measure up shows too much interest. Work on the price of an average size window and count the number needed as you go around.
