After a 20 pound disregard, it comes off your ESA on a pound for pound basis.
So - amount of your ESA +20.0 -
So if my esa is £70 and my partner earns £100 they would take £10 off me?0

Yes.
Apologies for the error, corrected by others in the thread - I was having an off day.
If it's income-based ESA.
If it's contribution based, your ESA is not affected.0 -
you cannot get income related ESA if your partner works over 24 hours0
-
if youre partner earned £100 and your income related ESA was £70 then you wouldnt receive any ESA as £70 ESA = £20 disregard = £90.
you wouldnt just be receiving £70 income related ESA though would you?
income based benefits are claimwed as a household and not as an individual.
so you would be claiming ESA as a couple and so would be receiving a minimum of £112 ( couples assessment rate). so if your wife earned £100 you would still receive £32 a week income related ESA ( £100 - £20 disregard = £80. £112 couples assessment rate ESA - £80 earnings = £32)

If your partner works 24 hours or more a week you cannot get anything for income related esa. I am in that position now and can't get any income related benefits at all.0

The reason I ask is I've been signed off sick with pregnancy complications and I'm in a new job and won't be able to go back. If I exhausted the period for contribution based esa but my partner works does that mean there's no benefits to claim until I am back at work?0

I've just read if you are in the support group there's no time limit. Hopefully this will apply to me.0

Yes, that's true. You say you're signed off work - are you not entitled to statutory sick pay? Or has that ended / you're not entitled?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I'd be entitled via my employer but they want to terminate my contract as I've not yet passed my probationary period and I can't go back until after my baby is born. I'm going into hospital. Not much I can do so I was going to claim esa.0
