  • So I never got round to doing any DIY at the weekend. :(

Had a night out on friday and spent most of saturday recovering. Laundry and food shopping used up most of sunday before heading off for sports in the afternoon.

    Must do better.

  • I have a new neighbour, or at least I will when they move in.

The place next door has been empty since the guy that lived there died just before christmas. Before you ask it was natural causes (he was well into his 90s).

The house is basically a mirror image of mine and in a similar state of repair, so I am eager to see how much it sold for. I could have simply asked the owner last night when they were dropping some bits off, but I thought it would be a touch rude.

Good job I can just view this data for free online :rotfl:

Hi, I have just read your diary, many congratulations on reaching the 99s.

Good luck in the remaining journey, hope the new neighbours are nice.

The delay will doubtless be with the Land Registry (whose data Rightmove use). It can take multiple months for their records to be updated and available.
  • Yes, I figured it would be the land registry being tardy. Presumably it is due to "cutbacks" as opposed to using outdated systems........ I am only guessing, but are they working with paper files and have someone manually typing it into a database???

I have found that anything to do with the property industry is painfully slow, be it solicitors, estate agents, banks, and so forth. No one does anything until you badger the hell out of them, and then they offer you an appointment in a fortnight or post the information to you. It is all very frustrating, though I wont buy another for a while and maybe they will have learned how to attach files in emails by then.

Oh well I will just have to wait a bit longer, or just be upfront ask the neighbour directly how much they (over)paid.

  • Hi Toots,

Glad you are enjoying it so far. I hope to be out of the 99s and into the 98s next month if I can keep the OPing up. At present every pound I overpay saves me over 2 pounds in interest over the life of the mortgage, so I view it as BOGOF :money:

  • Spent the afternoon doing the DIY I had meant to complete a fortnight ago. With the help of my stripper (careful now ;)) and a lot of elbow grease I accomplished 50%. It was also a NSD and a free gym session. I am now eager to do the rest tomorrow.

Only downside is the accumulation of DIY waste. I have just been sticking it in my wheelie bin to save on a skip, and the bin comes back empty each time. Its become a bit of a game as to what weird items I can put in there and see it it still gets taken.
So the other job for tomorrow - cut up an old carpet :D

  • Harray, all the woodchip has gone.

Ceiling looks in far better condition than I could have hoped, but will need a plasterer to come in and lightly skim it. Yes, I do have some limits to my talents. I need him for another room anyway, so im hoping it wont be too expensive.

Unfortunately I found a very mouldy wall next to the window. Had a quick look outside in the rain and the guttering is leaking. :wall:

  • Another weekend of house renovation planned. Plenty of plastering/sanding to do indoors, but best to tackle the back jungle if the weather stays nice.

The front jungle was done a couple of weeks back, as it was the worst garden on the street and I didnt want to upset my neighbours too much. However, now its cleared I get all insundry knocking on my door attempting to sell me $ky, or convert me!!
