    As above.

Remember Kwh = Metric Gas unit (M3) x 11 approx, or Imperial Gas Unit (100 Cuft) x 30 approx.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

The figures coming up almost scream that you are being billed for an Imperial meter, when in fact yours is Metric.

Please post the line on one of your recent bills that shows:
METER UNITS USED and NUMBER OF KWH CHARGED
  • I don't think it is a metric/imperial issue. One cubic metre is about 35 cubic feet. It's a factor of 35 not 3.

2.83168 metric gas units (cu m) = 1 imperial gas unit (100 cu ft) so it is a possible error factor of around 3. 100/35.3=2.83

Sorry for the delay.. a bit more background seems ro explain it

So when I moved into the flat there was a mix up with the meters, it took 4 months for me to convince bg the readings were coming from the wrong meter.

So when this was sorted out bg decided to apply estimated meter readings from the date I moved in rather than the readings supplied.

Actual useage for feb march and april equates to £30 worth of gas yet becaise of estimated readings applied to account from 1st april 2013 total gas bill for the previous 9 months is charged at £1080... thats over 30 times the cost for the past 3 months.

The answer to your first question, is I cannot find them, I have turned the flat upside down and cannot find my readings from the period

Bg gas say theres nothing I can do about it, actual useage over past 3 months is irrelevent apparently.

I have called citizens advice and they have referred it to one of their teams that act as negotiators on your behalf.

Any other suggestions or advice welcomed.
  • You should be able to go online at British Gas and get access to previous bills.

Or ask them for copies of the bills for the period you are querying.

We're in a 3 bed detached. 3 of us, and we only use gas for hob (cooking every day and domestic hot water). Showers every morning using the (gas powered) hot water. We pay by quarterly bill, and that's £65, based on readings that we submit. Something very amiss with your situation, we suspect. Our electricity is minimal. £120 for winter's bill. We're looking to switch to a no standing charge tariff somewhere. Either way, something' a bit weird in your situation.
