I have no idea how you all are landlords. I can only imagine what they're doing to the inside of the flat if this is how they treat the area outside. Trying to control this sort of behaviour would drive me crazy.

Landlords don't control the behaviour of tenants. It might be the landlord's property but it's the tenant's home. That said, if there were constant neighbour complaints about the tenant the landlord could issue a Section 21 and eventually get the nuisance tenants out.

I seem to recall a thread not too long ago where a tenant got a new mattress, couldn't get the old mattress out the room even though it must have fitted through the door and some point, and the plan was to set fire to the old mattress in the bedroom.
  • To bring back the point about the strength of the flat roof. I recently started getting bad floods through a flat roof extension. The LL got a repairman in, and it turned out there was one flat roof on top of another, both completely rotten. If anyone had stepped on the flat roof, they'd have gone through. Mine looked exactly the same as the one in the picture (slightly worn and tired) but had been unsafe for some time according to the repairman.
  • Flat roofs are always bad news.
That's why insurers dislike them so much.
