  • Thanks guys for the quick confirmation, gave me a little more confidence that I was headed in the right direction.

Just popped down to the shop, the woman is very 'no nonsense'. I thanked her for fixing the issue a few months back and mentioned that they were out again last night, with the bbq. She frowned when I mentioned there were out there again and then raised an eyebrow at the bbq point, and I said that I had a photo if needed, showing the bbq is still out there.

Oh no, that will not be necessary. My husband will have a word.

This is exactly what she said previously before fixing the issue a few months back, so quietly confident that this will be sorted too.

Will be back for further advise if not. Thank you have have a nice weekend on your *legal* balconies and gardens. :)

She's more than a tad on the side of "a little overweight" though :)

To use a flat roof as a roof terrace you need planning permission, structural calculations and building regs for starters.... and she's rented them the flat, not the flat roof.

Regarding the woman, if she was that size at the time of fall, her flab has saved her more injuries. Therefore less compo.

As someone who was chilling out in the living room while builders did work on the guttering, I can tell you that flat roofs are not designed for walking around on. This is due to the builders foot coming through the roof and into the living room unexpectedly in a shower of plaster.

Sounds like you have a good landlord there, but don't be surprised if it becomes an ongoing issue again, KEEP THE PHOTOS, he may still have to come to you eventually for them if it happens again and he needs to take it further.

Oh Pandilex! :/ Plaster showers are not that pretty are they! ;)

How in gods name did she fall through that small opening? Im speechless. I would have thought if she tripped on the lip of that skylight she would have gone over the top of it.
  • I'm thinking she sat on it for a rest and it gave way - seems a more likely scenario.
Just looked at the photo of the roof - this one is not meant to be stood on unless for essential maintenance, I think. Who owns the flat underneath? This is likely to cause problems with damp if it starts to leak because they've been hoofing around on it for the fun of it. Hopefully landlord will sort out quickly.
  • No advise needed, just updating my own thread here with the latest neighbor shenanigans. True to her word, the landlord took care of the BBQ issue and my summer was delightfully quiet with the neighbors staying off of their roof.

Imagine my surprise to notice this one though:

Yes, really, a mattress. I guess they followed the instructions of 'You may not have a BBQ on the roof again!'

I popped down to the shop to have a word with the seamstress landlady (who I later gathered isn't the landlady but is connected to her). I took my phone photo along and mentioned, 'just wanted to make sure you're aware, there's a mattress on your roof?'

(eyes roll from her). 'Did this appear on Friday?'
    Yes?
'Ah. They got a new one delivered. I will have a word.'

I'm not sure why getting a new mattress delivered would lead to putting the old one out the window, but however. A few days later it was in the driveway leaning against their building (between our building and the seamstress, it belongs to the seamstress but has the bins for the 3 shops next to it too.

Then it was moved to lean against our building.

Then unfortunately someone in my building does not have rubbish keys and is leaving rubbish outside our gated/locked rubbish store. Someone else decided to leave the rubbish store unlocked.

Magical fairies appear to have deposited the mattress and bedframe into our rubbish store very late on a Saturday night.

I popped down to the shop to have a word on Tuesday. As the seamstress wasn't there I left the message with her employee along with my number.

On Wednesday morning I popped in having not heard from her. Our day for rubbish pickup is Thursday and I know our management company will triple the local council's fees if they need to arrange collection.

'I received your message, I asked the girl, she said it's not hers.'
    Hmm.
I understand. It's just that we discussed in our building and we do not know where this comes from except that the gate was unlocked. It seems rather coincidental when I compare the photos, that it looks like the one from the roof. My neighbors would like to report it to the council as flytipping.

'I've left a message with (name), the landlord. Unfortunately she's been unwell, give me a few days I will sort it.'

Unfortunately, it's obstructing our rubbish bins and the management company will charge us, so this is why my neighbors would like to report it as flytipping today. Not sure what we can do in the meantime as I wouldn't want to get your tenants in trouble if they mistakenly put it there, but it needs to move.

'I believe you, based on your bringing this to my attention last week. Put it next to their door, I will inform the landlord.'

As my rooftop overlooks the drive, it also appears that they have borrowed a trolley from Tescos (our closest is a 15-20 minute walk)

I have no idea how you all are landlords. I can only imagine what they're doing to the inside of the flat if this is how they treat the area outside. Trying to control this sort of behaviour would drive me crazy.
