Still without a washing machine. I have found that the key is to wash a little and often as some posters have said.

Now that autumn is here, I am finding that I have to pick my days wash, but at the minute there is usually one sunny day out of every three or four so drying outdoors is still viable.

The biggest problem is the fact that the clothes are not spin-dried before hanging out to dry. That probably doubles or trebles the drying time. Someone suggested a spin drier, which I am on the lookout for.

Money is still in very short supply I am afraid so washing machine is still out of the question for the time being.
  • Are you still looking on Freegle/Freecycle Mistral?
Cos it sounds like it would have to be free for you and I think you'll really need one with winter coming on.....
Don’t try to keep up with the Jones’s. They are broke!

Mistral - have you tried a British Heart Foundation Furniture & Electrical shop? They sell reconditioned washing machines from £60 in there which isn't as bad as forking out around £200 for a brand new one.

    Just a thought.

I do not think there is one near me. There are shops which sell reconditioned washing machines, which I will have a look at. I think the going rate is about £60-80.

Mistral, you need to have a chat to Currys' delivery depot. Possibly an independent shop might be more amenable?

My rental properties often come with washing machines from the previous owner. I then order a washer dryer, and the supplier takes the washer away. A number of these have sadly been perfectly working machines that are no use to me.

I bet if you sweet talked them, and gave the driver a drink they might be persuaded to drop the next exchange model off with you.

what about getting a spin dryer when your finances are a little better? you can get one for about £110 with delivery. (i looked at argos online)
you can get a better model for £30 more with free delivery. its supposed to be quieter and space saving.
im tempted to see about one as my washer out of warranty and starting to get on in years.
it would help to at least help make hand washing and drying a little easier.
an aunt of mine has one and has had it a few years due to both hers and my mums washing machines giving out at the same time and now my mums machine has given up again the spin dryer is a real help for her, along with the odd wash i do for her. makes rinsing and drying a big help.
hope this helps and good luck with getting things sorted.

I don't do facebook, but I have read on here of people selling things and giving stuff away on their local facebook.
