    HI Gibby

Just catching up with my entire subscriptions list finally.

I think you've had some sage advice above about where to invest your money. If you want to see what OP's can do to a mortgage and the kind of savings you are looking at on interest compounding, then go no further than the diary of Ali-OK. She has made incredible strides and her interest is down huge amounts per day! There is something to be said for that.

I think an emergency fund is wise once the loan is paid off, the mortgage is entirely down to you really. At work we diversify S&S ISA's over 2-11 funds depending on the kind of amounts people have in them and what they wish their risk level to be. People make a lot of money on those, but again it is whether that would outperform mortgage interest savings. maybe do a snowball calculator? :)

Big hugs. Hope you are well and ploughing through work still. How is your health? xx

  • Hi Guys,
Thank you so much for your advice and suggestions above (I can't believe how long ago it was!) So much has happened since I was last on here - mostly nice overall, if very stressful things, hence time passing so rapidly. Unbelievable.
Workwise, I'm now on 5 jobs (can't remember if I was on 4 last time although number 5 is just one client really so probably doesn't count, lol). We've been a bit hit and miss with the OP'ing and annoyingly I've got to pay back almost £1000 due to an error at one job so I'm keeping money back atm that I'd usually be chomping at the bit to OP. I also don't actually know my loan balance (hangs head in shame) so one of my reasons for coming on here (as well as missing you all) was to try and get back on track.

I've still 3 major goals atm:

Lose weight (tied in with health and future happiness)
Get the house sorted (not much more done since we last spoke....again hangs head in shame
Get the loan paid off and OP mortgage asap before rates go up.

I've definitely decided to take your advice about leaving the investing for now. If we didn't have a mortgage, I wouldn't have to work quite as hard (regardless of having investments or not) so that is a good target, and the interest is 5% of a large balance which it would be difficult to beat.

How is everyone getting on? I'm off to job 5 in a bit (having done job 1 already), but will try and get round for an update on the goss. Really hope you're all doing well...

    Hi Giblet!

I was wondering where you'd got to! :) I'm glad to hear that some nice things have happened!

Whilst you've been away I've been matched with a little girl and will be becoming a Mummy in a few weeks! :D OPing will be taking a back seat!
    Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%

  • Thanks INOD, misst and Amy - so lovely to hear from you!

    Amy
    - exciting news and many congrats on becoming a mummy :) sending lots of love and luck _party_. My best friend has just been matched with a little boy and DH and I are 'aunty and uncle' which is lovely - very exciting times. Keep us updated, and feel free to PM if there are details that can't be shared more widely due to confidentiality etc as I'd love to hear more, but no worries if not :).

In terms of money saving, it's been a bit of a disaster. Had a bump in the car which has not only hurt my back, but will cost approx £300 plus possible missed work :( I should be grateful that it wasn't worse (just a minor bump really and total accident) but so annoying when I was saving up to have a nice few days away with DH. Will just have to enjoy a more 'budget' version, or take a little hit on the emergency fund (that's what it's for anyway I guess....)

Not much else to report. I've a bit of work for Job 3 arriving in the next few days (just £100 or so of marking, but every little helps). I've also got the most ridiculous couple of days at work coming up so will be glad to see the back of Thursday this week!

Sorry for the negative tone - need to think more positively if I'm going to get back on track. On that note - I'm going to go and do some creative banking, and see if I can't find that £300, or at least part of it, tucked away in additional savings :) it's definitely a more fun job than the work I should be doing, lol

    Happy Monday all

    Gib xx

  • Unbelievably - my dad's car is now broken and mine isn't yet fixed. More expense and less work possible. What a nightmare. Surely things have to improve soon....???? Plus I'm ill (just a cold but feeling sorry for myself, lol)

Hope everyone else is doing well xx
