o2 24month Contract Ending,Will monthly payments be less?(as phone will be paid off)?

A phone contract is comming to an end

Phone, Galaxy s3,
Contact, 24 months
Network, 02

It is say £30 a month, for these 24 months.

Now after the contract ends, if NO new upgrade phone is taken (this same phone is used for the future, keeping this s3 to be used)

then will the £30 be reduced to say £15-£20 ? (as within the 24 months, I would have PAID OFF the cost of the phone, so would only NOW (after 24 months end) only be paying for the line rental (and usage if any)

Note- the phone was FREE, but then again dont they include the cost of the phone in the £30/m for the 24 months?

from 3g to 4g?
and if i keep this s3 for more years with no upgrade, can i ask them to switch the data usage to 4g? for free?

would they do this? (by keeping the new price of the monthly payments the same) ?

You always were paying "only the line rental". The contract will continue as is unless you give 30 days' notice to terminate it or exercise a PAC to transfer the number to another network.

It was never a 24 month contract; 24 months is merely the minimum term.
  • Hi,

as previously stated unless you are on an O2 Refresh contract then no, your contract would turn into a 30 day rolling. A quick and easy way to check if you are on O2 Refresh, is if you look at your bank statement there should be two direct debits from O2.

If you are happy with your phone then you'd be better calling into a store on on the phone and switching to a simplicity which is just the sim card you pay for. They start from £9.

    Hope this helps

Refresh is less than 24 months old, so you won't be on this. Your contract is a minimum 24 month agreement that will continue as is until you tell o2 you want to change.

In regards to 4G the Samsung Galaxy S3 sold through o2 was not 4G ready, so no.

The prior answers have covered the cost reduction, basically it won't, but here are the options.

In all cases bar the second (the upgrade with the network) you can choose to go for a 24/12 month contract or go to a one month rolling contract to suit you, a lot depends if you like your phone. You could always go Sim Only for a few months then get the latest handset when it's released, that's the advantage of 1 month plans.

Stay as you are, keep paying £30 get nothing extra

Call and get an upgrade, get a new phone, new 24 month contract and pay that s you have, You can also sell the old phone and put that towards a new contract if you wish.

Keep the old phone and renew with O2, the price will probably come down as you'll be SIM ONLY, how much depends on what deal you get

Keep the phone and move networks to go sim free on another network, If your phones locked you may need to unlock it depending where you go, going to Tesco should be fined as they use O2, but not another network say Vodafone.

Finally buy a new phone Sim Free, Get a Sim only contract, and sell the old one to help pay this. This is usually cheaper long term than a network contract, but has a big initial outlay, plus you can move phones or networks when you please.

    4G depends on the network.
O2, Three and Tesco will let you have the 4G for free assuming the phone can use it, I don't think the S3 has the requires radio in it to use it, so if you want 4G you need to replace the phone.
