Just had a phonecall from Access to Justice

At the latter end of last year I had a car accident which resulted in my car being a write off. The accident was the fault of another driver and I have since been fully compensated.
Anyway, as of today I received a call from a Company called Access to Justice (apparently linked to the RAC) who say I am entitled to £3000.00. They made me believe that there is £3000.00 cheque waiting for me if I say I was wearing a seat belt, and that I suffered a degree of aches and pains after the accident.
I asked to end the call and to give me time to investigate the Company, and said they could call me again this evening, where apparently I will be talking to somebody else who will ask more questions to enable me to receive this cheque.
Obviously I am extremely dubious about this call and would like to ask if anybody else has had similar experiences after suffering a car crash.
The question is, why weren't you wearing a seat belt ?0 -

Who said that the OP wasn't wearing a seatbelt?0 -
Expect to receive more of these calls for the next 4 years, I get one every 2/3 days, remember one caller tried to convince me that the government brought out legislation to pay people "comfort payments" and they also tried to suggest I had a laptop on the back seat that fell on the floor and broke!
The best one yet, I kept the guy hanging on for 45 minutes as I said yeah, got terrible back pains for the accident I had 3 years ago but was at work and was on the other line, left my mobile on speaker phone next to the radio and went back to it every 5 minutes saying are you ok to hold for a bit as got to speak to my boss....LOL
Now I just answer the call and leave it next to the radio and they soon hang up, don't even talk to them now.
Best advice is if your involved in an accident is not to give out your phone number or buy a pay and go sim card and throw it away once your claim is settled."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
I would just say OK and take the cash.0

If you were injured or suffered discomfort, the compensation might be reasonable, but don't think of it as free money - we all pay in the end. Any idiot saying you should just take the cash is short sighted at best, or morally corrupt. Had a similar series of calls after an accident I was involved in 2 years ago - took me ages to convince them there was no injury, so I didn't need or deserve any compensation.0

the op stated
:if I say I was wearing a seat belt,
the norm would be to be wearing one, and to not be would be the exception therefore I would think you shouldn't have to state that you were wearing one, as it would be assumed you were.
them asking him to say that in fact he was wearing one, suggests that in reality it wasn't
hence my question..0 -

The OP's accident is over and done with, everything paid for. The company contacting him are on a fishing expedition and have no knowledge of the circumstances of the accident. They asked him if he was wearing one, that's all.
That's my understanding, anyway. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
I get lots of these calls every week and I don't drive!, if I answer the phone and get a few seconds of silence I just hang up.
Before these calls I used to get them about industrial deafness, until one day I asked them how they got this number as it is a witness protection number and they must remove it from the data baseit worked
