Background - husband on Incapacity Benefit long term and with a works pension after being medically retired. I get DLA at higher rate for mobility but nothing else as he's getting Incapacity benefit for us both (apparently).
Anyhow just heard ( by phone) he has been passed as fit for work after his Atos medical and our Incapacity Benefit will stop end of April.
Not had paperwork yet to start an appeal as he has loads of health problems with accident at work, now arthritis too plus lots of bowel problems so not fit for anything really.
Looking online the Job Seekers allowance is £72 a week while we currently get £101 Incapacity - so will be down almost £30 a week.
I hope the appeal will win through but just like to be prepared for what we will be having coming in as I'm still trying to clear cards from years ago.
Is the Job Seekers allowance but for one person and should I therefor try and claim something myself - sorry don't understand half of this. Not well enough to work myself either but apart form DLA have not claimed anything in my own right.
Probably should wait for the letters to come but I hate uncertainty.

Sorry to hear of this. It might be worth posting over on the benefits board to get a wider audience.
I'm not an expert by any means, so I may be wrong, but unfortunately I suspect that as your husband is getting a works pension, this could be deducted from any JSA amount he gets.
Are you currently getting things like Council Tax Benefit, housing Benefit etc ?0

Just Council Tax relief as we own our own place.
Thanks - I never thought of the benefits board.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

You have to do a joint claim for job seekers which is 112 a week.0

Apparently when they were on the phone to hubby they mentioned a phone number and web address but he was so flummoxed he never copied either!Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

Full details for appealing the decision above.
