Broadband refund

My broadband and landline with my provider hasn't been working from December last year to early February, but I had not reported the problem until January this year.
My provider said they could not refund me for the period when the landline and broadband was not working because I had not reported the problem until January. I guess it is partly my fault, I should have reported the problem much earlier (although they did confirm there was no data usage in December on the broadband). I wondered if I have any grounds to challenge this.

If you did not notice you had lost your connection for a month, how can you expect your ISP to know?
The might get further if you ask them for a MAC.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Standard with all BB companies...... People report it when they notice or miss it so that's when the credit for loss of service starts. It often amazes me how long some people leave it before reporting it.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

You don't pay for data usage-you pay for the service provision. and if no provision, you need to report it. If you didn't notice or need the service for a whole month, how exactly has it been to your detriment, and on what basis do you now expect compensation? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
