If the one at M&T doesn’t have any labels then presumable it doesn’t have a CE mark which means it shouldn’t be used by any organisation on H&S grounds.

Point this out to them and then just lurk around the bins

or the labels could have been removed to stop children pulling them off and swalowing them, CE mark is only needed for selling in the EU not use.

If you were kidding on about the CE mark- please use a smiley, some of us are a bit slow in the mornings 0015.gif

Schools, nurseries, creches etc generally purchase their equipment from Hope Education. I'm rubbish with technical stuff and can't do a link, but if you google Hope Education it will come up. They have some excellent ethnic dolls with the correct features (i.e. not a white doll coloured black IYKWIM). They are more pricey than the reatailers mentioned above but worth a look to compare (£21.00 ish). Try product codes: LN011202 or LA563096. I ordered a black male doll and a chinese girl and they have been great. Hope he likes them!

How could it be? It is a baby doll and it is black.

My wife, who is of black and mixed race Jamaican origins, had a Golliwog as a doll when she was a child.

She loved it and she is still fond of Golliwogs even though they have fallen out of favour due to being thought to be racially insulting to black people. This is a hot topic so it is probably best avoided here.

Her Mum is in a home and when we visited her last weekend, the lady in the next room had a Golliwog on her bed which brought back lovely memories for Mrs A. :D

I dunno, i was just telling her as she said in the 1st paragraph she wasnt sure if it was or not which personally i thnk is rather sad that people have to say things like that 'just to cover their backs'

I used to have a gollywog too, and in fact you could get Golly badges from the back of Robertson jams! And I lost count of the times I sat at infant school and listened to the story of 'Little Black Sambo' !! How times have changed, eh?

Incidentally, a black friend of mine told me that an old lady he knew had called her little black poodle after him - when he asked "Ahh, you called your dog 'Antu'?" she replied.... "No, I called him Sambo". He said he laughed so much it hurt!
