Are all Nexus 4 handsets unlocked, even on Contract?

I have a Nexus 4 on contract with o2.
Does anyone happen to know if this will be unlocked, or locked to o2?
I know that generally most handsets are network locked, but I'm sure I heard somewhere that all Nexus's are unlocked, even when on contract.
Just to satisfy my curiosity until I get my hands on a micro sim from another network..... everyone in my household is on o2 or giffgaff.....
Thanks

Yes, all Nexus 4 devices in the UK should be unlocked, even with a contract. They also should not have any carrier modifications.
All Nexus devices are sold this way, which is one of the many benefits they have.0 -
brilliant. good to know, thank you.
I am going to a few different countries this year, so will be looking to use local SIM's.
Will definitely check with another UK network SIM before my travels tho.0 -
Depending on the country, you need to be aware that your phone might need to be registered there as well, which might cost you a fee. For example, if you try to use an unregistered handset in Turkey using a Turkish network SIM, after 2 weeks, it'll be blocked from all Turkish networks until you pay a fee to have it unlocked and registered. I doubt that'll be an issue for the EU though.0
