Mortgage-free Glee!
Thanks to Martin and the team for the heads up in this mornings weekly email.

The Ovo Cheaper Energy Plan launching today, is going to really help as I was due to switch automatically from the EDF Blue April 2014 fix to its standard variable tariff from 1st May 2014.

This will save me over £150 a year compared to if I did nothing.

Once again, thanks to Martin and the team :T

I myself has a tariff with edf that ends end of April and boy is the market really hotting up with competition, New providers, lower tariff's this has got to be a start in the right direction. I have just agreed a switch to flow energy that are coming out a couple of quid cheaper than this new tariff by ovo.
I am glad i held out for as long as i could because it has paid off for me. Even with my switch i still save £103 from the new blue tariff 2015 with edf and compared with their standard rate well its just short of £280. Back of the net.

I switched to Ovo Cheaper Energy on Saturday via uSwitch. What is new about the cheaper energy plan that launched today?

    It's cheaper ;)

(but still not as cheap as separate suppliers for me)

As long as EDF are informed of an intention to switch to a new supplier by that supplier before the end of this month, and the switch then happens in a reasonable time (even after 1st May), EDF will only charge you the current fixed tariff rates.

This should have been explained in a letter you should have received from EDF. ;)

Why would you do nothing? Even if you didn't intend to siwtch supplier, you would surely switch to the cheapest tariff EDF offer, especially as their are no early exit fees.

It's a bit like me saying Ovo could save me £400 a year assuming I switched to the most expensive supplier/tariff rather than the cheapest Ovo one. Fortunately for me, I switched to cheaper suppliers & tariffs than even Ovo can offer.

Stick with MSE and you too might eventually learn how to really crack this moneysaving lark ;)

Just gone past the cooling off period in my switch from EDF to OVO, so will just miss out on this even cheaper tariff. That's life though, rates could have gone up and I would have been smug!

Just hope the £40 cashback eventually turns up from Simply Switch once I've moved supplier! Either way I am better off than if I'd stayed with EDF.

Is there a way of transferring to the new cheaper tariff? Would they charge you? You might be able to do it online!!!

Don't think so. Once you are over the cooling off period (which I am), the exit penalties will apply.

It might also jeopardise my cashback as an earlier poster mentioned, so probs not worth the risk. Probably only around £15 quid cheaper over the year for me.

It looks like for a "typical" user of 16500kwh of gas and 3300kwh of elec, today's new tariff would save you £11.55 (in total over the year - in my area, but guess it won't vary that much elsewhere) over yesterday's tariff, so unless you're using a lot more energy than that, there's no need to worry too much if you've already signed up to the slightly more expensive one :)
