BT tricking customers to extend broadband contracts

I recently came to know that I have extended/signed a new contract with BT for 18 months as I have signed to BT cloud for 50 GB capacity . This was not highlighted at the time and all I can remember is I was offered more space in the cloud free of charge. This is in the middle of my actual 18 month contract and yesterday when I asked about my contract end date they say I have 7 months more than actual time I have signed originally for, as this cloud subscription I have done (as I was offered free) is interpreted as a beginning of a new contract with them, This is a real cheating and I have not received any email confirmation of this contract giving me a chance to opt out within a set time if I change my mind as in any other on line contract. Has any one had similar experience/got cought in this trick/scam to extend the contract so you are stuck with them ? Is this legal?
Thanks for any comments / sharing of ideas.

It's not a new or extended contract. It's an extension to the minimum term of the contract you already had. Which also means opting out wouldn't be offered.

Now, where the t&c's you signed up to?

T&c's have to be clear and fair. I would be pretty annoyed about this.
  • They are turning very shark like. I had a very similar thing happen over them phoning to upgrade our bb hub, EVEN THOUGH I ASKED...
Elderly mum's bb not working, they said it needed a new hub, no charge. THEY ADDED IT TO HER BILL. Grrrr.
Try the escalation thread, apparently there is a specialist unit that deals with complaints. Must be very busy at the moment.
  • Yeah they managed to trick my mum into extending her contract by offering her free storage aswell. Outraged but I had so much flack with customer service that I couldn't even be bothered to fight it for her.

If anyone feels tricked into whatever they have just changed, you can ask for the call to be listened to and if the BT Compliance Team agree that you were, they can reverse the change. And if they don't, you can take it further.
  • HI Just an update regarding the issue. Today I am informed by BT that they have reversed my contract to the original conditions/date and not only that, its reduced to 16 months instead of 18. So I am out of contract with BT now, means I am free to move earlier than expected. I think I became a trouble to them talking to the points and asking more questions and proving them wrong. They would like people who will say yes to any condition & pay the amounts without asking questions. Any way now I am comparing Broadband deals again, LOL.
