My dad said the same about the appetite

Yeah pizza is once a week and the pastry thing will be less really

If I want the health benefits I can always go back on 5:2

My main 'problem' is craving sugar. I swear that I am a sugar addict. I love healthy food and eat plenty of it, but I find it hard to go a day without chocolate or some other sugary thing.

Yeah I started just changing little things, drinking more water, switching to no sugar energy drinks, smaller bags of crisps etc

Why are you even consuming energy drinks and crisps if you're trying to lose weight? What's wrong with water and a piece of fruit or vegetable as a snack?

It's just 'waste calories' though. I will eat chocolate if it's in the house, likewise crisps. So we never buy either and temptation is removed. The first step to losing weight is to remove the rubbish from your diet, in my view.

I'm now retired and felt I needed to lose weight. So just by cutting out the crap, eating smaller portions, and being sensible, I have lost two stones since November. I aim to lose another two. I can now resist eating for the sake of it, which I suspect is a problem for the OP. If you are stuck in front of the TV or laptop all day you can be tempted to eat without even thinking about it, but if it isn't in the house you can't eat it. So don't buy junk.

Exactly! But the reply will probably be 'I don't like it.'

Crisps are the ultimate junk food, full of calories for very little food satisfaction. Some people fall for the 'low fat' line too, when they are better just cutting them out altogether. They are a completely unnecessary food.

I am also intrigued as to what a 'no sugar energy drink' is. How can it provide energy without a sugar content?

I absolutely agree that its waste calories, but not having it (sugary things) in the house is not a deterrent to me, I live 5 mins (if that) from the local Tesco and will go and get some. I have never known cravings like it! I quit smoking easier than I can quit sugar!

But like I said, I have lost 1st by reducing the amount, I just cant seem to quit in altogether.

Could you not work it into your calories? Or maybe only have it once/twice a week, I'm not so much a chocolate addict as it tends to give me heartburn

Because I'm not cutting things out, that does not work for me, fruit gives me heartburn, I'm trying to have little bits so my body can get used to it

Well done on your loss and you have a point, I did used to eat for the sake of it, not out of boredom but because it was there on my plate, if I was full and I still had food left on the plate I would stuff it in, not now though, now it either goes away for later or in the bin

I dread to think to be honest! These sugar free products can be extremely harmful too because the brain is fooled into thinking it is having glucose so when the body doesn't actually receive it the cravings intensify, often leading to binge eating.

Yes, this is exactly what I am doing. I'll eat a choccie bar for about 300 cals (for example) and i'll deduct that from whatever I eat the rest of the day.

I really just want to not eat the choccie though, so I am continuously on a mission to cut it out.
  • I'm on SW :-)

I started beginning of Jan and lost a stone in 5 weeks. Then I went out for dinner/drinks with my SW buddy and totally lost it!

I completely went off the rails which is daft because slimming world is so easy to stick to and gives you so much more food freedom!

So yes I have been struggling - put on 1.5 stone since coming off the tracks but have started again yesterday!

Keeping motivation this time (at least until my holiday in Italy in May :-/)

I would say from my experience with MANY diets that you begin to expect the large weight loss numbers you see in the first few weeks EVERY week. This just won't be the case as your metabolism changes - just keep eating healthy and trying to work in exercicse when the loss slows down (I HATE exercise but have just started Couch 2 5K and it's actually OK!)

good luck and don't give up!
