Hi all,
Before I start waffling, I need to warn you that I'm not that techie, so please be kind to me :-D
Okay....I have some kind of malware on my laptop. It's only showing itself when I'm using Chrome. It will suddenly take me away from my Virgin email page and I either get some mail order catalogue-type website, a fake Java update page or I get a McAfee red warning page. I also sometimes get a sudden audio advertisement or film trailer (?) which comes through my laptop speakers but no change of page.
I have McAfee installed, but this obviously slipped through. I have done a full system scan but it found nothing. Over the past couple of days I have tried:
SuperAntiSpyware (found a few cookies, nothing else).
Malwarebytes - found nothing.
Avast - found nothing
Hitman Pro - again, nothing
Ad-aware - nothing
Can anyone suggest anything which might find and remove it please? I'd appreciate any help. Cheers.

Hi Closed :-)
Thanks for replying.
Do ya mean I should just uninstall Chrome itself? Or an extension? Sorry, I'm showing my ignorance :-o I don't know what extensions are lol.0 -
Have you tried with IE or Firefox , it may be just a chrome extension, which I guess closed is alluding to4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0

Hi DCM :-)
It's only happening when I'm using Chrome. I also use IE but don't have a problem there. Are extensions uninstalled as a separate thing or shall I just uninstall Chrome, then reinstall it?
Cheers!0 -

I checked which extensions are on Chrome and there's only two....McAfee SiteAdvisor and Skype Click to Call.
How would I know if the search engine has been changed? It still has my favourites across the bar at the top, so all looks 'normal'.0 -
go to the Settings tab, scroll down to Search Providers, click to manage/change, set google search as default, and delete all others except maybe yahoo or bing, job done..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

It's now affecting IE too :-( I'll be using a page when suddenly the page changes to a Java update page. Surely it's something which is hiding away somewhere in my computer?0
