Changing broadband providers - basic info needed!

Hi All
My friend is moving from Sky broadband to TalkTalk.
I'm not clear on the process apart from placing the order with TalkTalk. Can someone help please?
Does my friend need to notify Sky that she is leaving? Or will this be taken care of by TalkTalk anyway? Could she end up with a crazy scenario of having both Sky and TalkTalk if she's not careful?
NB, she is also moving the landline service at the same time - TalkTalk have had to arrange for an engineer (BT openreach) to visit because the phone line is apparently tagged to Sky - again is there a danger that an additional line will get installed? Or will the engineer just facilitate the swap?
Thanks
James

Setting aside the question , why would anyone move from Sky to Talk Talk.
You friend should contact Sky and request a MAC, or what other procedure is in place for an LLU to LLU transfer.
It is important not just to cancel the broadband/line with Sky as she would then be charged a termination fee.
BT OR will do the necessary work at the exchange no home visit required.Questions are a burden to others; answers a prison for oneself0 -

Partly in the hope of hitting the jackpot with TopCashback with a move back to Sky in a year's time, and partly because TalkTalk is cheaper than Sky anyway.0 -
Since an LLU to LLU switch is rarely possible (and certainly not with TT's limited level of competence), I think you'll find that what they are doing is provisioning a new line to get around this. Once the TT migration date is confirmed she should call Sky and confirm her 30 days notice. Never ever rely on the incoming provider to cancel.
OR will not necessarily need to visit the property, but access is requested on the day just in case.
But I have to agree with the above, it's a bad move. Much better to cut a retention deal with Sky to match the TT offer. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
