We went to Dobbies yesterday and I bought the duvet set that I liked. It's got a nautical theme, which is right up my street.
I sold a few bits on eBay over the weekend, which I was pleased with.
It's been a strange day, with lots of faffing around, and not much achieved.
I've had loads of deliveries, which is good. All the things I ordered last week have now been received, plus the Easi Yo delivery from Friday. I have been completely inundated with emails and texts about the deliveries, my phone has been pinging and dinging all day
But the faffs - driving me mad!
1) My car is being recalled as it needs a safety modification. Phoned the garage several times, phone rings and rings, no reply. I'll have to go round there tomorrow and book it in face to face.
2) Pension slip received - tax code changed. I still don't have to pay tax, but I don't think the code is right. I phoned them, (took ages), I think they have given me wrong info. I've done a post about it on the savings board. I'm not going to pursue this as there's still no tax liability, but I don't like things being 'not right'
3) I phoned the local coach company as I want to book a day out. I phoned last week, they were supposed to ring me back. I'd heard nothing, so I called again. Now the date and format of the tour has changed and all the prices have changed. I'm provisionally booked in..... but they need to call me back. Not much progress
I swear, some days it's like wading through treacle!
I know I have time to do it, but I don't want to spend all day just faffing!
Tomorrow must be better !Early retired - 18th December 2014

Remember once upon a time you had to fit faffing in around work ..... just faffing must be better than thatMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
So true, Watty - it'd be awful to have to fit in the faffing into my spare time at the weekends and in the evening.
Like most faffing, things gradually get done.
I visited the car dealership in person, my car has now been booked in for it's safety modification next Thursday.
Somebody on the savings board helped me with my tax query, so I'm happy with that now. Mr Goldie had a tax summary for the year 2017-2018, and they had about £2260 listed as earned income. He didn't do any paid work in that year, so I have no idea what it is. As they are not asking for more tax to be paid, I'm just leaving it alone!
Still nothing from the coach company - I'm leaving that for the time being too. The outing isn't until June so there's time.
We've made an MSE decision regarding our mattress. It's still very comfortable, so we've just bought a mattress topper to add even more comfort - a lot cheaper than a whole new mattress!
Yesterday, we took advantage of the nice weather and got the train to Herne Bay, then walked to Whitstable. Back in the autumn of 2014 when we made our decision to stop work, we celebrated by having fish and chips in an open air restaurant in Whitstable, and said we'd go back when we retired - we finally had our post retirement meal yesterday! It was wonderful to sit outside in February to eat a meal.
The nice weather has made me feel it's spring already, so I've had another rummage in my wardrobe and have come up with a few more things to sell on ebay.
On Monday we have our new little wardrobe being delievered, which is mostly for Mr Goldie to use.
Therefore our bedroom renovation is almost concluded..... now we are starting to think about our bathroom.Early retired - 18th December 2014

What a lovely few days you've had
the ports in Kent are wonderful too, I loved my overnight trip to Margate last year
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I always like Margate, the Turner is a good place to go, for free
We've had our wardrobe delievered........ it's really nice....... but we ordered one with a mirrored door, and it hasn't got a mirror !
Sometimes it seems like every thing has a little twist, so that it doesn't go completely smoothly!
We have decided to keep the wardrobe, as we can't be bothered with all the further faff. I phoned, and they have agreed to refund the additional cost of the mirrored version. However, I think I spoke to the office junior that I spoke to a couple of weeks ago, so I've followed it up with an email.
I sold a pair of lamps after a few weeks of ebay listing, which I was pleased about..... then the buyer decided she didn't want them after all. So, they will go to the charity shop now, as I'm fed up with it.
I'm currently listing the clothes I found during my wardrobe rummage. Hopefully they will sell without too much trouble, and they don't need as much packing as lampsEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Hello everyone!
It's been a while, but time goes so fast.
Just thought I'd update where I am at the moment.
As mentioned in a previous post, after decorating our bedroom, our thoughts had turned towards renovating our bathroom. We've been browsing online, looking at brochures and got an idea of what we like. Last week, we had somebody round to look at the bathroom (and downstairs cloakroom) and we explained what we would like done. On Wednesday, we went to the showroom, and they showed us on the computer what it would look like, and it would look great. Like most home improvements, the cost is a bit more than we thought. We've decided to go with this company, mostly because, so far, they've done what they promised and in a timely fashion and we've got a generally good feeling about them. Online reviews look good as well. The work won't be done until June, and will take about three weeks in all. It's a big step for us, but I think it will be very worthwhile.
Some of the other things that were going on - my car safety modification - that was cancelled at short notice as they'd run out of parts. I eventually got it done on Wednesday. (Wednesday was quite a busy day for us.
The coach outing we were trying to book - we were provisionally booked in, but they never got back to us so we could pay for it. As it turns out, we are now having the bathroom fitted on the datw of this coach trip, so now I'm pleased we are not going! I will phone them, though, just to make sure we are not on a the 'provisional' list.
The wardrobe we had delivered, which should have had a mirror on it - we had decided to keep it, but had asked for a refund in for the difference in price - it took a bit of chasing, but eventually got a refund. About £63, if I remember correctly.
eBaying went well. I sold most of my clothes, and my friend had a clear out as well, so I sold her things as well. I have some summer clothes that I intend selling in May, when people's thought's turn to summer.
Now for something in the 'you really can't make it up category'. We were talking about our annual struggle to get the shrubs at the bottom of the garden to be cut back to a manageable size. We decided to get a tree surgeon to do a quote, as some of the shrubs really are 'that' tall. It turns out the whole road has a tree preservation order on it, and we have to get council permission to have any trees or large shrubs in our back garden cut back (or otherwise risk a hefty fine!) Unbelievable! We've been chopping chunks off our shrubs for years, and never realised. Now we know, we've had to comply with this. Apparently permission takes abut six weeks, and we've been waiting 4 weeks, so really hope we get our permission soon, so frustrating when you want to 'get on with it'!
so that's where we are - it's all pretty positiveEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Very positive, Goldie! But blimey, keep schtum about cutting your shrubs back "in contravention of" the order. Everyone must know you've been doing, as everyone else has been doing it ... but if you're heard, you can't be un-heard, so to speak  very George Orwell.
Hope your bathroom/cloakroom fittings go well. The process of looking at the computer-facilitated kitchen was amazing to me2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Yes, I found the visualisation of the bathroom on screen to be brilliant and so helpful. It's amazing what they can do these days.
As Brexit appears to be off for the time being, I'm going to start eating my Brexit stockpile, so grocery spending should be on the low side for a while. My freezer is stuffed with food and I have tins where tins don't usually live. I hope I don't feel the need to restock in OctoberEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Amongst other items - 2 dozen tins of He1nz beans, 3 dozen tins of soup (DD's staple go-to food for lunch when studying) and 6000 PGT1ps teabags here to get through...….I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200
