it's due for a change.
It's very er... lilac. We got the carpets and curtains in 2001/2002 when lilac seemed to be a popular colour, and got various accessories to match. Since then, the walls have been painted various lilac shades and the bed linen has been lilac-y as well.
We are keeping the carpets and curtains, but this time the walls will be a pale creamy yellow, we've got some white/cream accessories, and the duvet covers will have greys, and yellows.
Hopefully it'll give the room a nice liftEarly retired - 18th December 2014

There's quite a few websites that give ideas for accent colours. It throws combinations that you'd never really think of, and gives inspirationEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Yay, here's to redecorating, paints, wallpapers, slabs of colour and highlights, all of it
hope it goes well tomorrow - oh, and that you don't freeze with having the windows open! Thats a bit serious, that!
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Our bedroom has turned out really well.
We still need to get a another duvet set and a few more finishing touches, but we're really pleased with it.
I'm eBaying few things we no longer need like bed runners, the old bedside lamps, a couple of old pictures, a couple of cushions. This has also meant, now I know what boxes and packaging is required, I've been able to put most of my cardboard box stash into recycling. It was getting out of hand again, so it feels much neater now.
Today we've ordered a small wardrobe for our bedroom, to utilise a space where we had previously filled with a random old chair. The confirmation email said the delivery (in 2 - 4 weeks) would be a one man delivery, but we could upgrade to a 2 man delivery who would set it up and take away the packaging. if we phoned. We thought it'd be a good idea to enquire, but I think they had the Saturday boy on duty - I could barely understand what he was saying, he was really slurring his words. I decided to call back on Monday. The retailer had good reviews on Trustpilot etc, but I now feel a little less confident about them. I've got 7% cashback on Quidco, which I thought was good
I had some money come out of a Halifax fixed rate bond, so I've put it in a Hargreaves Lansdown Active Savings Account. As I've got my SIPP with them, it was really easy to set up, but it wouldn't let me set up my nominated bank details. I'll try tomorrow, or will phone on Monday.
These days, I increasingly find that things are never done and dusted on the first attempt !Early retired - 18th December 2014

Hoorah, progress made!
On Monday I phoned HL, as I still couldn't add my nominated bank account to the Active Savings account that I opened. They took the details over the phone, then they sent me my activation code. I got the letter yesterday, entered the code successfully, and now all done and dusted.
I phoned the wardrobe company, and spoke to the regular weekday person, who added 2 man delivery to our order. (it cost another £20, but I think it's worth it)
So those pending items have been resolved.
I've spent a satisfactory afternoon ordering our new pillows, pillow cases, sheets and duvet cover from M&S, as they have a 20% off Home Event running at the moment. I also ordered two reasonably priced valances from Dunelm.
While I was browsing, I've seen a perfect duvet set for the spare bed. We don't actually NEED a new duvet set for the spare bed, but I really love it, and it's only £20 which isn't too bad. I'm thinking about it.
We may be getting a new mattress for our bed, as our current mattress is getting saggy. This year, we will be married for 38 years, and we're only on our 2nd mattress, so that's an average of 19 years per mattress. I've read that mattresses should last 10 years, so we are well over due for a new one!Early retired - 18th December 2014

I bought a new mattress last year and love it. But goodness shopping for them is fraught ... I finally bought via a website that allowed me to have the mattress for a few months or return foc.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
That sounds like a really good day
I hated mattress shopping, really, really hated it. When I first moved here, I made a *terrible* choice - such a waste of such a lot of money. Second one is much better (and half the price!). Best of luck.
The spare room duvet set sounds a good idea, by the way - you're allowed the odd impulsive and almost-unnecessary purchase2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I think we are going to have to set aside some time for the mattress shopping. I usually browse online to get ideas, but I think we are going to have to go round stores to try laying on them. These days there are so many choices, and it gets to be really difficult to make the right choice.
I've decided to get that duvet set. It's in the Edinburgh Woollen Mill concession at Dobbies, so I'll see if they have it next week. If not I'll order online.
At the moment I'm feeling a bit cross. I order my Easi Yo sachets in bulk, and I had the parcel scheduled for delivery today. I looked at my email and they claim to have tried to deliver, but we were not in and left a card in the door. Needless to say, there's been someone in all day, and no card through the door at all. I've rearranged for delivery on Monday, but this sort of thing makes me mad !Early retired - 18th December 2014
