I really like one by Bellaruth N...can't spell the surname ... but pop it into google and some by her come up.

I found her on iTunes, so that's something I will look into as well. She seems to have a calming voice from the preview that I played

My OH makes me list positive things when I can only see disaster around us. He's a very calming influence (thankfully).

My husband is fortunately a calm person too - it be a nightmare if we were both like me!

I intend writing down all suggestions that have been made over the last few days, and look at them in more depth. This has been a really personal thing to say in public, but I'm glad that I did it, as I now have a better idea of how I can move forward.

It's been a good weekend - we are currently painting the living room. Our new colour scheme will be greys and mauves. The walls are now a light grey colour, which I find to be rather relaxing.

I still have no idea what's going on with that bloody fire - we've heard nothing more from the retailer. So it may be collected tomorrow and a new one delivered. Or it may not. I'm half hoping it's not, as we found out how the thermostat works so the heater will kick in when the room is cold enough. The 'block' on the screen only shows in a certain light, so we could probably put up with that. Anything that's less stressful to be honest

Thanks NG, I'm glad I spoke up, as it's been amazingly helpful

Fire update - have heard nothing from the retailer, and no replacement has turned up. So, the original fire is going back on the wall tomorrow. We'll just have to put up with the 'block' on the screen. It's only noticeable in a certain light, so I don't think visitors would see it - we only see it because we know it's there. This is not ideal, but I'm saving myself stress. But, its been shocking service on behalf of the retailer. We can't speak to anybody because they are always on answerphone, and only had one very vague email reply, which they never followed up on. I'll be sending them a stinging email, to get it all out of my system! :rotfl:

I've also learnt, if I make a large purchase from a website of a retailer I've not previously heard of, I will phone them first, to get a feel of how they deal with customers

We've finished painting the lounge, and I really like the pale grey colour. With the new sofas and the new floor lamps it's starting to take shape.

We haven't bothered to put up the old curtains or curtain pole, so just have a blind at the window. We've already sold a cabinet that used to be in the room, so it's a bit bare - it feels like we are just married and haven't got much furniture yet!:rotfl:

Thats a really, really good idea! I hate the thought of you putting up with something that's not right, but I understand it - I've recently realised I did something similar with that last crop of building work I had done, little things but things aren't the way I wanted them.

And a big "awwwww :j" to feeling like newly-weds :)

Do they (and you) have any social media pages, Goldie? - have found it useful the one time we needed Consumer Goods Act 2015 restitution from a big retailer (Tefa!) - whilst a couple of shop visits and follow up phone calls and emails got us nowhere, a Twitter posting from OH got us immediate attention and a full refund (entitled to under CGA) within hours - and phone contact from someone actually able to agree to something in the company!

  • I'm very sorry you've had such a stressful couple of weeks GG. As a worrier too I completely understand your anxieties. I second what greent says - see what social media presence they have and take it from there.

I loathe having work done on the house because I can't bear having strangers here so you have my utmost respect! Take care love x

Are you planning to go to the Ocean Liners exhibition at the V&A?

  • That's a good idea, hadn't thought of phoning them. I tend to steer clear of companies without a social media presence too (except for the kitchen... hmmm....)

Have you managed to shift all the furniture you had up on eBay?

Don't worry KC, I've accepted it now. The 'flames' are on now, and they look very cosy, and I can't see the 'block' unless I look very, very, carefully! I'm sorry you've had a problem with building work. I think its modern day life, it can be very difficult to get good service if things go wrong

I hadn't thought of social media. I've just found them on Facebook, although they haven't updated their page since Sept 2016. Although I belong to Facebook, I rarely log in. I do use Twitter from time to time, so in future, I will look to see if there's a Twitter presence when considering a purchase

    Hi, MWC!

Booking the tickets for the exhibition is on my to do list! We're thinking of going in May, when the weather is better and we've hopefully got the bulk of the lounge and kitchen done. I'm quite excited about this as it's right up my street

The auctions end tonight. I've got a bid on the lamp table for £5, but nothing on the dresser or corner display unit, but loads of watchers. I'm hoping for a last minute flurry!
