There's a lot going on! Staining all the doors is really time consuming, I bet it looks good.

We're really pleased at how its turned out. We the doors are all wood veneered, and we hadn't done anything to them since we moved here. The woodstain has really enhanced the look of the doors.

This morning I moved the DVD's to their new home in a cupboard upstairs.

I think this week I'll be preparing the Welsh dresser for sale on eBay. We've had it for about 28 years, and it is time for a change. We've discussed painting some of the furniture, but we've decided to make big changes instead. I'm quite reluctant to list it, as I still like it, but we want to make space so we can move our remaining furniture around while we decorate and get new floor covering. All being well, we'll be getting carpets and new furniture in the spring, so we'll be 'transitional' for a while

Dire weather today, so no chance of a walk :(

  • The home improvement sounds good. Want to send Mr Goldie to sort ours? We are terrible DIY folk :rotfl:

Hope you get to relax on the lovely new sofa!
  • All sounds wonderful Goldie and thanks for the tip on photo box - I will have a look and keep an eye out for offers.

I mentioned one of the things I wanted to improve this year was my mental health. These things are difficult to talk about but, I feel I need to record this.

I've frankly had a major meltdown today.

As part of our improvements, we want to install a couple more sockets. Mr Goldie decided to make a start on it today. It was something I wasn't looking forward to, but thought it was best to get it done.

Anyway, he needed to cut a channel in the wall for the new wiring, which he did with a new tool he's got, an angle grinder

I left him to it, then came back in the room, there were clouds of dust going everywhere, including all over our one week old sofas, which he hadn't even put dust sheets over.

I went completely into a panic attack, I literally couldn't breathe. It was pretty bad.

When I eventually calmed myself a bit, we moved to sofas into the dining room and I had to give them a major hoovering. Thankfully they are ok.

If that had been it, I could feel as if I could move on from that point.

However, my lovely new fire isn't working properly now. When we got it, the first time we tried to put the fan heater on, it didn't work, so we switched it off and started again, then it was fine. However, today, it was unplugged at the wall, and you guessed it, the fan heater won't work at all. Plus there's now a 'block' on the screen in one corner, which notices when the fire display is on.

We've tried ringing them, but you have to leave a message, which we did two hours ago and have contacted them via a message on their website. No response yet.

I can't understand how I could be perfectly happy this morning, and then go from panic attack to how I feel right now which is total dejection.

I've always been a worrier, but when things appear to go wrong so quickly, I think to my self that I'm right to worry about things, and I think this is why I start to feel fearful.

I'm not sure I even want the fire any more. I was so happy with it, but now it seems to be something I don't even want to look at, as it reminds me of what's happened today.

I'd probably feel a bit better if I could actually talk to somebody at the retailer, but it's like a blank wall at the moment.

I just wanted to get this on record. I have no answers today, so I'll just leave it there for now.

I am so sorry to hear this Goldie :(

Also a massive worrier here and there is nothing more stressful than things going wrong in your home, your sanctuary. Try and resolve the practical things one at a time and then take a breather to get back on an even keel.

Have you had any counselling or similar in the past?

Thinking of you, take care :)

Didn't want to read and run, Goldie. (Have a husband with long term on and off serious MH issues which I've referred to in past so understand some issues with regards to talking about it) Hopefully the retailer will contact you tomorrow and it will be an easy fix. Worst case scenario for the fire is a refund under Sale of Goods Act, I guess.

Sofas are ok (although Mr Goldie clearly wasn't thinking when he neglected to cover them) - which is a positive. :)

January is pants. Are panic attacks a regular/ increasing thing? Do yo find your mood is lower in Winter (SAD?)

Nothing really constructive to say, I'm sorry - but your MFW followers are here to listen when needed x

So sorry to hear this, Goldie - I ended up sending you a pm. Hoping you're coping okay, and talking with OH about it all. And strongly identifying with what you're saying...

    Hi, everyone

Just wanted to say thanks for listening yesterday. I've always found it better to write things down, rather than keep things in my head, so it seemed to help me.

I am feeling somewhat better today. I stayed up to about 2am last night, as, every time I laid down, my brain started racing, so I read my book instead, which seemed to help.

We've been out today, as I had an eye test appointment and we had a coffee beforehand. We walked to the shopping centre, and as I find walking to be relaxing and being out of the house distracts me as there's always something to look at, all of this was useful.

Update on the wall heater. We had an email yesterday evening saying the old one could be collected on Monday and a new one delivered at the same time. We've agreed to this, but have no further detail. Of course, as often happens in this situation, the bloody thing is working now. There's nothing in the instructions, but we've worked out if the temperature in the room is higher than the figure on the thermostat, the fan heater won't come on! I wish they made this clear in the instructions. I feel feedback coming on! There still seems to be a block on the screen though, especially if you look at it in a certain light, so I think a replacement is still appropriate.

So much of yesterday could have been avoided. But I'm trying not to dwell on it, just need to put it behind me now, and move on, as best I can.

In answer to Ed's question, I've never seen a therapist. I tend to feel more comfortable with the written word, so not sure how I'd feel about talking to a stranger, even if they are qualified

Greent - I don't think this is a seasonal thing. I was quite bad in September and October, but have improved in the last few months. I think I've been worse since I retired - perhaps because I have more time to think about things now. But, I tend to keep occupied, so when this strikes I think I need to make sure I'm filling my time.

I feel hopeful, as I'm working out how to cope better
