Serbian Dinar

Options
I am going to Serbia soon but am struggling to find places where I can exchange GBP for the Serbian Dinar (RSD).

Does anyone know of anywhere (maybe online) or am I best exchanging when I get over there?

Thanks,
Phil

Unless you have a good reason to do otherwise, I'd always recommend using a fee-free card (such as the Halifax Clarity) to withdraw cash when you arrive. If you don't want a credit card, consider a GBP-denominated prepaid card with low fees, such as Kalixa Pay ( https://www.kalixa.com/pay ) or ICE ( https://www.iceplc.com/prepaid-currency-card/pound-card ).

you will struggle to get the currency anywhere , i work for travelex and we dont supply it or buy it

best bet is as already suggested a prepaid card or clarity card or take euros and exchange when you get there as you will get a better rate , thats what we advise our customers

Many thanks for the info guys, I'll take a look at those cards.
  • A card is the best bet, as ATM's are everywhere. Failing that, GBP is perfectly acceptable, but make sure that the notes are in very good condition.

Don't bother exchanging for EUR to exchange to RSD, you'll just lose twice on the currency conversion. When I was there, GBP rates were just as competitive as EUR rates.

As for why you can't get RSD outside of Serbia, it's related to capital controls. You can't take more than 10,000EUR out of Serbia in RSD (not even with a declaration) and the banknotes cannot be bigger than 1000RSD.

The books are sitting just there on the floor.

http://www.thomasexchangeglobal.co.uk/index.php will sell you Serbian dinar - though there looks to be an awful spread on their rates - which are very good for mainstream currencies

A card on arrival is likely to be better - even if you have one with poor rates
