Hi has anyone else had a message from Microsoft security essentials to say that they will no longer support xp after tomorrow? Does anyone know if this means we have to download completely different security software? or will there still be a partial security?

yes it ends on 8th April .
it will receive no further updates or virus definitions and is essentially now of no use to protect a PC .0 -
Microsoft's announcement on this does not quite say that, it uses the phrase that MSE updates for XP will continue to be available 'for a limited time'.

It was originally rumoured that updates would continue until 14/7/15; whether that is their definition of 'a limited time', I don't know.
Apparently you won't be able to download it any more after tomorrow if it detects that the OS is XP. However, that would not prevent you downloading it on another OS entirely and then copying and installing it to a PC with XP?
Ambiguous, to say the least. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
