pots for tomatoes
Does anyone know whether Morrisons still sell the big black pots which they have bunches of flowers in? I need something like that to grow tomatoes but live a fair distance from the nearest store and don't want to go on spec. Or any other cheap ideas? I would be very grateful.

Mine do but they don't have them out every week. Why not give them a call?0

When i got some last year they never had any out on show so i asked, he said you'll need to come the flower delivery day 'cos they're snapped up quickly. I think in our store it was Thursday, he asked shall i save some.... how many. Well Thursday comes and he says yes i have them in the back waiting for you.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

My local store has them just behind the flower department counter, you just go up and ask for them and they ask how many. They actually have tape marked with the price so you can pay at the flower checkout or the normal ones. 8 for £1.
I had thought about using them to grow tomatoes in, but thought they might be too big or too small. I grow mine in bottom less pots on top of growbags, although this year I've also got some broccoli boxes which I'm going to try as gravel boxes, but the Morrison's flower buckets don't fit in them.0 -
You can also get them from Lidl but for free. I've been using them for 2 yrs and find they are great for tomatoes. I drill 5 holes in the bottom and stand them in saucers with a bit of gravel in and that saves watering so often.0

We asked a member of staff who usually has to ask the manager. Then it's just "How many do you want".
Oh, forgot. We got some free from Waitrose too.0 -
Loads in my Morrisons 2 weeks ago. They were charging 99p for 8 if I remember correctly.
I wouldn't use them for final potting of tomatoes, as they're a bit small. I use plastic bag pots which I've recycled for some years, but if I didn't have those, I'd use plastic sacks of the type chicken food, fertilizer etc comes in and create my own grow bag.0 -
Monty Don did an experiement on gardeners world last year. He did them in his usual deep terracotta pots, in peat-free growbags (no culture pots) and in very small terracotta pots (as directed by a tomato grower) His best results where from the growbag.0
