Suspect landlords doesn't have banks consent to let... mortgage arrears of 7k

I have put the details of our phone conversation in writing to the estate agent and requested in writing on headed paper and signed a statement to confirm the owner has consent to let and that they have received this confirmation from the banks representative directly.. I wonder if they will actually put their name to it and send it to me0

As for the post of course it's illegal to open others mail but many do it and the chances are highly likely you won't be prosecuted.
you are wrong - it's not if delivered at the correct address.
Anyway, I have a thread here , recently my LL received letters form the lender for arrears, it turns out it was a genuine mistake, the LL parent own the property and due to a death in the family some silly mistake happened with accounts form which the mortgage is paid from etc, I don't want to go into too much detail and as they own quite a few properties they didn't notice, no post came to them just to our address (they have a BTL mortage) - anyway had I not seen and opened the post , it would have been repossessed, it was really a close call, in the end they paid all the arrears off and stopped the process as it was a genuine mistake and not financial problems0 -

It is not illegal! I am still getting mail from previous tennants after 8 months living in my rental house. I started off with sending them back and 'Not at this address' but a couple continued to still send letters.
I asked my postman if it is illegal if I were to open these letters and contact the companies (we are not talking one letter every other week, we are talking several letters each day) direct. His answer: It is not illegal to open letters addressed with my address!LBM 11/2009 Total Debts 11/2009 £44624 with DFD 2015

Well if your postie says it isn't, who am I to argue?
:rotfl:Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
We don't need confirmation from a postie. The legislation has already been quoted in this thread.
And it has nothing to do with interfering with mail-bags or postal packets in transit.0 -

If you interpret the law as being a 'reasonable excuse'. What next to check on other halves bank statements? To check on neighbours Social Security Statement because you think they are fraudulently claiming?
Reasonable excuse could be a 2 year old opening mail once. Opening it after that to see what the Landlord is upto..............I don't think so.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -

if it so important why do't they redirect their post or change their address...the tenant is living there and it is their home for the duration of the tenancy, if I want I will open all post that comes addressed to my address and throw it away if it is not relevant to me.
LL's fault for not doing everything above board, are you a LL?0 -
Stebiz you are being intentionally obtuse about all this opening of mail correctly delivered.
If the landlord wanted to be certain of receiving his mail he should have arranged re-direction.
All of this discussion about the landlord's mail is pure side-tracking of the actual issues the OP is experiencing. He could be in danger of becoming homeless within about five minutes of signing what he thought was a legally-binding agreement. Finding a rental property takes time and quite a lot of money. Facing the prospect of having to find those sums all over again within weeks or months just stinks
In my opinion that over-rides any rights the landlord might have or thinks he has. Or you, for that matter.0 -

I own a number of properties through my business and all mail comes to my home address. However I must say I'd be a bit miffed if a private letter arrived at the tenants address and they opened it.
The fact is it is personal. It's sad to see so many individuals finding it acceptable to open others mail. Standards are slipping. Let's just hope one day they read something they wish they hadn't.Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies0 -
