Mobile internet access via dongle / mobile phone subscription

Hi all! I had a good, cheap 3 plan for mobile internet access. This came on a Sim, which I sometimes moved from my phone to a dongle. The dongle gave the same access; unlimited internet at an acceptable speed to the laptop, on the go.

But Three has apparently decided that this deal was too good to be allowed. So today when I tried it after a break of a year, I got the message;
Your SIM will only work in your phone.
Reference SIM001

Taking your SIM card out of your mobile phone and putting it into a different device - like a dongle or tablet - isn't what our phone plans or Add-ons were designed for. You need to put your SIM back into your phone in order to continue using it
So outrageous of them to try dictate how I can use this sim card, which I am paying a monthly fee for.
Needless to say, I'll cancel this on principle.
Cracking the dongle made no difference - Three somehow knows if you are dialling up from a dongle or pad, and for that they want to sell you a more expensive plan (whoever actually NEEDS unlimted broadband to a mobile phone?!)

But what is now the cheapest Mobile Sim deal for unlimited internet to laptop?

    It's perfectly obvious why they presumably changed the T&C's: to prevent people consuming unlimited bandwidth on their tablets or laptops, using a SIM data package designed for less bandwidth-hungry mobile phones.
    You are essentially tethering, there is no difference.

    I don't think anyone offers a mobile data package with unlimited downloads, there's usually some sort of FUP applied.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
