First decide if you are continuing with TT .0

Hi yes I'm happy to continue with TT wondered if the upgraded router would make any difference0

That's a "how long is a piece of string" question. The repeater should so long as you position it so it gets a decent signal from your router. Other (more expensive) alternatives would be a repeater that uses homeplug technology - something like http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-WPA281KIT-Powerline-Extender-Configuration/dp/B00ECBRGW8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1396785539&sr=8-4&keywords=homeplug+wifi (I'm not recommending that one it was just the first I found on Amazon).
You may find that altering the position of your router may improve things.0 -
No harm in trying to haggle for the £45 router to be free, where is the router placed ? Its suggested its best to place it in the middle of the house if possible but depends where the entry point is.0

thanks for the replies the router is at the bottom of the stairs over on one side of the house bedrooms are on other side average house not balmoral, as the main socket is there but will try to move it slightly will also try for the new router as a freebie nothing ventured thanks again0

First try changing the wireless channel. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Also try turning the router to improve the signal .0
