Thought CRAs are only 6 years? Possible Barclaycard blacklist?

Personally I find your honest approach quite refreshing and whilst your attitude will always be the subject of much debate, ultimately it is your decision.
On the one hand I have absolutely no sympathy with banks, not least because they have zero morals themselves, so I certainly wouldn't think that you should have any 'moral' obligation to pay it off, as they wouldn't have any moral obligation to you. I'm sure they gave you hell when you went into default and you probably paid back far more in interest and fees at some stage, than you probably still owe. Banks are like the bookies, they never lose!
On the other hand, the only thing I would say, is that because BC have decided to bare a grudge and retain information about you, its quite possible that this information 'could be shared' with other companies 'owned' by them and as realistically there are only a handful of lenders, and loads of 'white labelled products' all owned by the handful of lenders, you may just want to be careful that at some stage it doesn't bite you in the backside, if Barclays decide to buy a lender you want to do business with in the future.0 -
Hi again folks,
Thanks for all the replies, most have been educational although a few clearly did not read my full opening post.
Anyway...I know BC have every right to refuse me, with or without a reason. Fully aware of how credit works.
And yes, I could pay back the amount owed if I wanted, approx £1500. But I will not and don't want to. My reasons are this, I was young and silly, I ran up a silly debt when banks were **not** doing doing proper checks on my credit worthiness. If I paid it back now it would serve no purpose other than to clear any guilty conscious I had (which I don't) from non-payment. You can argue about morals all you want, I get it, we will simply have to agree to disagree. Me paying £1500 would be money down the drain, I would be no better off financially or credit wise (clearly outwith Barclays).
My initial post was to give a full and frank background before my question, can banks keep records beyond 6 years? I did not know.
I don't need a BC really, I was just looking to take advantage of a potential BT I might require within the next 2 months. I know I can get credit elsewhere without issue, I have excellent cards with superb cash back rates/no foreign fees/lifetime low rates such as a RBS at 6.9% and MBNA at 6.4%. My credit rating is I would say, nearly as good as it gets for most folk.
Clearly I stung the wrong bank in Barclaycard however and they will refuse to allow me a product again. I'm absolutely fine with that, I just wanted to educated if that was allowed after 6 years and some of you seem to have got yourself a high horse and think a lecture is what I required. Not really necessary. I know I'm a good customer now and most certainly good for the money to be paid back, sorry for not being the perfect human being and growing up making no mistakes like several angels on here...(sarcasm btw, I know it fails some). I know the score now so thanks for the helpful replies I can honestly say I am now a little bit more wiser from your wisdom.
Thanks all!
If you've paid or acknowledged the Barclaycard debt in writing in the last 6 years, they can take you to court and obtain a CCJ which will then stay on your credit files for a further 6 years.
They probably won't, but they could do. Something to bear in mind when deciding whether it's worth paying them back or not. What will your verse be?

If i where you i would submit a FOI request to Barclaycard (they can charge a fee but i think it is £10 max) asking for all the info they have on you.
Now i am speaking from an ex-bankrupt view but i asked on Debt Qustions forum could ex-creds (B/C are one of mine) keep records for over 6 years & i read they can hold for 7 years after the date of BR. So an extra 12 months after it drops off CRA records. So i would have thought it's the same with defaults etc.
Remember they are holding your data which is your property. Get the info off them & if your not happy take it to the Information Commisioner or sue them in the Small Claims Court. I have no sympathy for any bank or c/c provider they ripped people off enough in the past with PPI.
I forgot to say earlier you can also request B/C (they have to comply) to provide a copy of the original cr agreement signed by you that contains the clause they can hold your data forever without your permission. It's not unsual that they wont have this record. If they can't or if the clause is not their then they won't have a leg to stand. You can then contact the appropiate regulator or take legal action.0 -

This is good advice.0 -
If they decide to share that information then fair enough, however I very much doubt it would happen. Again I'm sure the high horse brigade will waste their time telling me otherwise.
I'm in a excellent position currently with my current lenders. RBS, Clydesdale Bank, MBNA, Amex, Capital One, Halifax & Bank of Scotland. All accounts are tip top with the best rates (Capital One the exception) as there is a loan & mortgage included and the rest credit cards.
Thanks again everyone!0 -

Given I have never seen T+Cs that expressly say my CC can hold data "forever", presumably my CCs are short of legs too. What "legal action" do you think I can take?0 -

So you expect someone else to pay for your mistakes?
With this attitude, I expect that you'll not be "doing better" for long.0 -
I'm confused.
You knew you owed Barclaycard some money yet still chose to apply to them again - why do this? If you had no intention of paying them money, why didn't you apply elsewhere and you'd have saved yourself from making this thread?0 -
It's simple, you spent it, you owe it, pay it back.
I'm not surprised they declined you tbh, accept that you may never get your 'foot in the door' with BC so to speak, and move on.
One word of advise though, don't spend knowing you can't pay it back.0
