iphone 4S is slowly dying but with GiffGaff & don't want to take out a new contract!!
When my o2 contract came to an end I changed providers and went with Giffgaff. Its now costing me £10 a month for 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data. Its so fab, not had any problems since Ive been with Giffgaff. My iPhone 4s is slowly but surely dying. I have had it to the apple shop and they have confirmed that my battery is worn and it would appear that the home button isn't working properly but its not something that can be repaired. I have done the rounds of the other providers i.e. o2, vodafone etc and for me to get a new phone I would have to take out a new contract which to give me the similar tariff that I have now it would be £30+ each month and that's with a discount for working for the police. I can't afford to shell out for a handset outright but rally don't want to be spending £30+ a month when I have been paying £10 and getting exactly what I want. Any suggestions?

Surprised that you don't realise that part of that £30+ is the repayment of the handset, with GG you are on sim only, so you are paying for the airtime only. I'm surprised Apple say the handset cannot be repaired, or did you mean that the cost is as pricey as replacing the handset?
Overall you are not going to get an iphone (or any other handset with similar features) for free, unless you steal it from lost property or such like  somewhere along the line you are going to have to fork out for a handset .0 -

For 500Mb you'll have to pay £29+24x£18 (minus cashback).
I see Unltd+Unltd+1Gb for £20+24x£25 (-£30 cashback) as well.
That said, if you can't afford "to shell out" £350, IMO you possibly cannot afford iPhone at all.0 -

With Apple there really isn't such a thing as "not something that can be repaired" unless it's catastrophic damage.
Apple will replace an out of warranty iPhone 4s for a fee of £159, you will get what is essentially a brand new phone (that Apple describe as reconditioned). My iPhone is not eligible for warranty service. What are my service options?
Out-of-Warranty Service
If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service, Apple will service your iPhone for the Out-of-Warranty Service Fee listed below.
iPhone Model Out-of-Warranty Service
iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5 £216.44
iPhone 4s £166.44
iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G £126.44
The Out-of-Warranty Service Fee includes a £ 7.44 shipping fee, which applies only if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping.
All fees are in British pound sterling and include VAT.
Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPhone that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.====0 -

Home button replacement and a new battery are usually about a £30 repairs for each. Batteries are between a fiver and a tender depending on brand and who's selling them. Given they need to take the battery out to replace the home button doing them together should be a cheaper option, than the separate costs, Maybe £50 tops
Ask in your local indie phone shop or market stall.0 -
If it's anything like an iphone 4, home buttons and batteries are easy to replace especially the battery and quite a few available on the bay did a couple for relatives recently0
