LL don't always like pets, and it might be harder with two, but we didn't find any issues when we were looking for somewhere to rent that accepted cats. I think dogs can be more of an issue, and you might have to have a pet damages clause written into the tenancy / pay additional in the deposit but it's not a no-go in our experience. X
I have just rented my house out to a couple that have a cat, I wasn't thrilled with the idea to start with but after speaking with the letting agent I decided to go with it.
They have had to pay a bigger deposit and also will have to have the house professionally cleaned when they move out.LBM: Dec 2012 - Debt £38,180/ Now £0.

That sounds fair, we acquired our cats after we had moved into our flat, the only thing we got charged for was cleaning of the carpet, but we had been there 8yrs so that was to be expected. Aside from that I cleaned the flat thoroughly,be drying wiped down including inside the kitchen cupboards, and the skirting boards (even inside the built in wardrobe). The LA actually thanked us for leaving it so spotless so pets deff don't equal mess or destruction, it's the tenant that makes the difference.
Regarding changing of cat food, there's more info online, but it should be done gradually, cats esp are a creature of habit so introducing new food needs to be done over time, initially by mixing with their current food and gradually changing the qtys. My mog actually had the Lidl pouches for a bit, loved them, and then went off them :mad:Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Hi virgo i think you shouldnt give up your house as its so hard to get back on property ladder plus renting is expensive and you have nothing left to show for itim sure a better job will come up in the future and then if you sold your place you would then regret it , as for the cats i have five cats and have slowly changed all there food they were on james wellbeloved but now on seriosly good and any meat pouches as they like most of them anyway good luck0

Hi Princesspea,
I'm still very undecided at the moment. I'm trying to get through each day at the moment. My credit card is maxed out this month so have no money this week for food or next week. I've put a application in for working tax credit and should get £166 a month which will be amazing. I do keep praying for one of these money wins but that kind of luck evades me and most people doesn't it.
For now i'm doing DIY round the house in case it does end up going up for sale. I definitely haven't made a decision either way. I know my family are hoping a better paid job comes up soon. Lots of job applications are in and fingers crossed one of them is successful. Either that or I will end up committing murder on one of my colleagues I really hate in my temporary job.
I'll definitely put an update on as soon as I decide what to do. Thanks for everybody being so helpful it's given me a much needed boost in a time of being at rock bottom :A0 -
I hope the tax credits come through soon and you get a new job. Lot's of applications sound very productive! I know what it's like to work with an awful person at work - chin up and try not to let it get you down. I find that people who enjoy making others' lives a misery usually have crappy lives themselves - it's their problem not yours

Sorry to hear the credit card is maxed. Can you head over to your parents' over Easter? I'm going to see mine but unfortunately the petrol and all other spending for the rest of the month is having to go on my credit card. Let's hope next month is a bit better for both of us!

Hi Princess Pea,
Isn't it lovely to finish work for 4 days. I'm so happy to have the break although the ongoing diet means no chocolate at all. The first Easter without chocolate is going to be tough.
My lovely mum is taking me food shopping tomorrow. She really is a lifesaver and I would be eating sawdust if it wasn't for her.
I hope you have a lovely bank holiday weekend back at home with all stress and money worries out of your mind. I'm certain next month will be better for us. They say positive thinking helps so I am giving it a go.
Happy Easter xx0 -
I thought I would post an update to let people know how things are going. I have been successful in getting a permanent job back in the civil service and a grade higher. I start in January and will be getting nearly 10k more than I am now. I can't wait after nearly 2 years of hell and no money. Plus to have a great permanent job again.
The last 7 months since I last posted have been some of the darkest of my life but I feel positive about the future although Xmas is going to be very poor. No decadent food, parties or presents. I will be putting my house up for sale next summer. Although I'll be better off this house holds too many bad memories and I want to be free from it and debt. To have even £10 per week spending money is a dream. Sorry if I've gone on but I thought I'd let you know how things are. Xxx0 -
If you are going to be on an extra £10k per year, then you should be able to deal with the debts without having to sell your house.
I know that you feel that the house is full of bad memories, but it isn't really.
I'm in the position that since I was made redundant in 2010, all I've managed to get job-wise are temporary roles.
With your new job starting in January, the darkness will be lifted and you will feel 200% better.Never Knowingly Understood.

Great news on getting a new job but please do take your time before deciding whether to sell. The fees for buying and selling are so extortionate they knock a couple of thousand off your sale price and private renting is also expensive.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
