Do Mbna and others charge vary BT fees among their customers?

MBNA has been sending me various 0% Balance and Money transfer offers. The balance transfer fee in both case however is a whopping 5% for a one year period :rotfl:
BT fees were brought in by cc companies a while back as a countermeasure against stoozing. At the time they were typically between 2 to 3 percent. I notice MBNA, at least in my case, appear to to have progressively jacked up their BT fees over the last couple of years.
The fee charged by Barclaycard is 2.9% for an equivalent time period for Balance Transfers.
I'm just trying to get a feel as to whether this 5% MBNA BT fee is typical across the board for existing MBNA customers, or whether it is targeted.
Has any other MBNA customers been offered this "bargain" fee?

I used to get various offers from MBNA, often with BT fees below their standard fee (which used to be 3%, I think). I would sometimes take them up. Then they raised their standard fee to 5%.
Like you, all my "offers" for the last year or so have been at the standard fee of 5%. I haven't taken any of the up. Actually I don't do BTs anymore anyway, but they are not to know that. The balance on my 19K limit card has been zero for about a year now. (That reminds me, I should put some spend through in case they close it as dormant.)
I'm always getting good offers from Barclaycard Plat and Santander Zero.0 -
I'm in a similar position. Over £20k limit with two card from them following a split. Did the 0% juggle for a while but lost interest in it and gave up a couple of years ago. Very occasionally put an item through on one of the cards, then pay it in full. I never use the other one. I haven't seen a Bt below 5% from them for ages. The length seems to vary a bit though - from about 10 months to 15 or 16.0

I've got 3 % showing for BT and 4% showing for bank transfers, it's on an Amazon Credit card but is essentially MBNA. Still far too high a fee as Barclaycard are offering money transfers at 1.9%.0

Currently showing
0% for 6 moths - halifax
1.9% for 9 months - Barclaycard
Both of which regularly change0 -
My Virgin Money card (now closed) had a 5% fee, but my Virgin Atlantic card still has the original 2% fee...for both BTs and money transfers.
I regularly get 12-13 month 0% offers, but haven't taken one for a while as even with a near £25K limit I can't make a worthwhile stoozing profit.0 -
I have about 4 Barclaycards and all the offers now show 6.9% for life and a bt fee of 2.9%. Before that the various cards had different offers and one going up to January 2016.
I did phone BC and advised the previous offers were still available up until 7 May.
Perhaps the change is to do with their internal scoring.0 -
yes, they certainly vary. they offer different deals to tempt you, though sometimes (like for me, currently) they are not very tempting. they can, sometimes, be negotiated too. i have negotiated fees down, and the period up, at various stages.0

mbna 0% bt till 20th march 2015 3.5% fee
Barclaycard 1 - 6.9% for life of balance transfer 2.90% fee
Barclaycard 2 - 0% for 31 months 2.90% fee (this is a new card though - yummy)0 -
I am in the same boat - have told them through their secure message system that they their BT fees are way too high - got an automated response but nothing else.
As others have said other cards are cheaper - either MBNA don't want any more of this market or perhaps a little short of cheap enough capital to make it worth their while.
Have they not been trying to sell their UK card operations for years?0 -

Steer clear of MBNA for BTs - far too expensive. I didn't know they were trying to offload their UK operation. I hope they're successful. I don't like these American operators taking over the market. Having said that, I do have four of their cards myself.0
