Struggling to choose which provider to go with

Well finally had the great news that we get a place to rent and started to get the ball rolling in planning what services to go with. My simple rule was fibre with un-metered bandwidth (40GB would not last me in the slightest). Virgin Media is sadly out of the question otherwise it would have been my first choice as it does not get rolled out till September. Mostly we use the connection for streaming netflix and gaming.

I would suggest as a first step use Samknows to determine which LLU providers are available from your Local telephone exchange.
Should narrow the choice a bit.
If FTTC is available then you will probably have a choice of BT/Plusnet, Sky, and Talk Talk .

As above: broadband is exchange specific if you don't want to wait for VM cable (though it's news to me that they are cabling any new areas, they haven't done so for years).

Thanks for the responses, we can get sky, talktalk, bt etc in the area as the area is Fibre to cabinet ready, from looking at the reviews there seems to be a lot of mixed responses, I've seen the tutorial mentioning about haggling. I tried with Sky but got zero success as from what I can tell they've dropped their prices on the monthly rates etc pretty low already.

I would hesitate to recommend any ISPs, son in law recently got Sky FTTC, for him it works well, self install, no need for the BT OR man, IIRC he gets a solid 40 Mbps down/10 !bps up.

we can't get virgin as the council sold off something which means we can't get it for another couple of years.

I've been with talktalk and bar the yearly bartering to get the best deal possible i've not had a problem (touch wood) and its pretty cheap really so can't complain. Must add i only really watch odd youtube clips and odd bbc iplayer so wouldn't know about the rest of the stuff
