I'm going with the £12 Virgin sim-only when my Orange contract ends due to the fact that a lot of my signal locally is 2g if any. (Neither O2 nor Voda work in my house at all).
3 looks attractive if 3/4g are readily available but for me (and OP it appears) they aren't.0 -
So............what's Virgin like, piggy-backing on EE?
Info would be appreciated.
I've been with Virgin for about 4 years and, wherever I am, I honestly can't fault the signal on Virgin. The only time I've had problems were when T-Mobile and Orange were merging their networks. I haven't got 4G, but the 3G signal is excellent. Out here in the sticks, it's faster than the ADSL :rotfl:Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I Use both 3 and virgin. 3 is more for unlimited data and virgin for calls and text. i just checked my virgin speed: H+ DL= 22Mb/s UL= 1.7Mb/s.
I stay in Edinburgh EH3 centralWhat happens if you push this button?0 -
3 actually still have a 2G voice and text roaming agreement with EE.
It's been turned off in 3G areas but is still active elsewhere. With all due respect, 3 can only be the "real deal" and "hands down" if you can get a connection! The benefit of Virgin/EE would be that unlike 3, they still have a 2G network. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Nope, on the mainland too including Scotland. As far as I'm aware, the only area of the UK where 3 still piggy-back on another company's 2G network, is Northern Ireland. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Experience with 3 has taught me that even in areas with no reception you don't fall back on EE2G because its a blackspot, not a area where the coverage maps say you have a signal.
A train journey between Aberdeen and Edinburgh I had no calling, data or texting ability most of the journey and was continually being threw off Orange & T-Mobile 2G because a weak 3G was available.
Get a 3 sim card and test your frequent areas/travel routes out.
Virgin can be problematic with 2 2G & 3G networks still being combined (iphones esp - manual searching), my home has 4G poor at that (and very close mast), poor old T-Mobile 2G but great 3G, Orange indoors 3G is minimal or non existent but old Orange 2G is same.
EE 4G is T-Mobile sims, same as many EE resellers - you can do a manual search and the EE network with a house symbol or H is T-Mobile on Virgin and other old T-mob resellers/MVNO's too.
Same for Orange resellers/MVNO's T-Mobile is the network when doing a search that does not have a house or H next to it.
I'm heading off to a o2 reseller/MVNO soon as the 3G is poor/non at home but 2G FULL signal...obviously...
1) I use wifi at home not 3G
2) o2 itself is a rip off LOL
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe
